A few details here. Looks like it is going to be multitimbral with individual outs. That's great news.

Re: Custom emu roms? 6400ultra
Actually what are the specs? I wonder if some alternatives might work.

Re: Custom emu roms? 6400ultra
At those sorts of prices I wonder if it wouldn't be worth some manufacturer's while to do a run of compatible FLASH SIMMs.

Re: E-MU Command Station sequencer questions
Yeah it's a good sequencer, I like it. But what I was hoping was possible was to record pattern changes in real time, not just mutes and so on.
The guy from EMU even said it was possible!

Sorry to briefly hijack this thread but would any of you Command Station users have ideas about the questions I asked here?

Re: E-MU Command Station sequencer questions
Thanks for the reply DA, much appreciated. Let me know how you get along with song mode if you end up using it. Recording mutes is no problem but it doesn't seem to record pattern play event / pattern changes, that has to be set up in step mode. The funny thing is that after trying to get these and ...

Re: Technical discussion of DSI synths and their DCO pop
Instead of trying to suggest what people should or should not be interested in analysing for their own reasons how about making some recordings of your Voyager or P08 so they can be compared?

Re: Technical discussion of DSI synths and their DCO pop
Well spotted that the flat section occurs after the first cycle at the new pitch. I haven't tested it thoroughly yet but just briefly it appears to happen very consistently on every transition from low to high. If you look at the rest of the short clip I posted you'll see that the transitions are al...

Re: Technical discussion of DSI synths and their DCO pop
The mod source I used was just an LFO. One oscillator playing with the VCA level full up. Don't know how relevant the test is really but it's interesting. I did try the same thing with a digital oscillator and of course as you'd expect you can hear a small click when the pitch changes but it's not a...

Re: Technical discussion of DSI synths and their DCO pop
So actually it looks like something similar happens when changing the pitch of an analogue osc using a modulation source. This is OSC 1 playing a triangle wave being modulated by a square LFO. You can see the glitch at every transition from low to high where the level actually seems to drop for a cy...

Re: Technical discussion of DSI synths and their DCO pop
Yes there's no way the oscillators are that slow to respond to pitch changes. Clearly they can do it very quickly indeed. Also if it was to do with fast envelopes where the oscillator is in its cycle I would expect the amount of popping to vary more or less randomly from note to note. As you say, th...

E-MU Command Station sequencer questions
XX-7 users, can you help? 1. How do you record pattern play events in song mode in real time? I am assured this is possible but it doesn't seem to record anything when I select patterns while recording in song mode, either manually or with the trigger buttons. 2. Has anyone managed to get it correct...

Re: Technical discussion of DSI synths and their DCO pop
Do they pop when pitch is rapidly modulated using an LFO, for instance? I don't think so.Jinsai wrote:I'm guessing the Curtis chips are clocked in such a way they simply don't respond immediately to pitch changes, and instead take some number of clock cycles to change;
