the accuracy of that Wiki article is questionable, considering that the Prophet 5 did not exist until several years after "Shine On..." was recorded

HOLY c**p i remember that thing. 1998 was a loooong time ago.
they only made 4...too bad for us

i like how there are 3 EGs, and 2 LFOs plus 4 'modulation' knobs, and the touchstrip w/ the printing on it is brilliant.

plus it's RED

man, what a loss.

Yes - if it's there, use it. I also feel that the entire synthesizer is just a big fx unit anyhow, that happens to also be a playable instrument. So i have to suppose that what we all mean by" fx" is : post-dynamic and/or digital. Non-osc/eg/filter/amp stuff i guess. - hey, distortion is an effect, ...

Okay, enough praise...now why are they so cheap??? Something besides lack of knobs has gotta be the culprit - wonky graphics? the pg-200 sells for more than the actual synth. can it be...they've written the synth parameters TWICE already on the surface, and....look....SHINY buttons right under 'em! ...

Tough choice : all-around monster Polysynth deluxe vs. a ball-to-the-wall Oberheim that blasts holes through concrete. The Jupiter sounds a little less distinct, but is oh-so lovely and arps like nothing else. The OBX-a can get mellow, but loves to rip. I like a little mo' sizzle w/ my steak, so OBX...

what you need depends largely on two main factors: 1. How authentic do you want to be ? To do DSOTM and WYWH -era sounds accurately, you need at least a Moog (a model D Mini to be exact) of some kind, and of course there's the VCS3 - both expensive but hard to imitate w/ much accuracy. You could 'ge...

What the h**l could 1, 2, and 3 possibly be? my guess w/ shaft is a Sunsyn, an MMM, and an OB8. am i right? close? LOL make that 8 an X and you couldn't be closer actually i need a bigger mixing ...

Studio: 1. Sound quality is king. If it ends up on a recording forever, it's got to sound good. 2. Interface/Programmability. If it takes too long to get the sound I want out of a piece, I move on to the next. 3. Size and Ergonomics. Not a big deal, until you try to cram 5 polysynth keyboards into a...

23 wins the prize for having the highest # of characters per post ratio on VSE.
Give him the bloody 'Synth Explorer' badge, already.

The Speckie feels insulted from being prodded in with such classless company.

when i saw the word 'wave' and read a little bit about it, i was intrigued. something like a V-Synth but with wavetables and even more flexibility would be awesome. but jeeeesus, those demos are just horrible imho. it's like someone told the demo person to make it sound has harsh, muddy and unmusica...
