Yamaha RY30 MIDI out - what for??
okay all i really want this thing to do is send MIDI clock - being the drummachine it should act as tempo master; however browsing through the manual didn't help me. I've spent 2 hours with this thing and there's NO mention of any use for the MIDI out jack yet - this is rather unbelievable and I fig...

Re: 1st Mooger?
Moogerfooger pedal? What should I get first? ? don't get a pedal - get the CP-251 to start 1 - it will make your phatty twice the synth it is already...it enables you to do everything the phatty isn't able to do but every great monosynth should, apart from ring-mod:. For example being able to use b...

Re: top 3 synths but what about maintenance
Odyssey all the way...but i love the ARPs more than just about anything so I'm biased OB-Xa is a poly so much more can go wrong...mine has a wonky controller/lfo section and as a monosynth it is very limited. really it's a whole other beast. MS-20 i find less and less desirable anymore. i think the ...

Re: Gear Envy.
At the end I truly envy people who have found a configuration and arrangement of synths that suits their needs and they don't feel the need to buy or sell their gear. If such a set up exists for me, I haven't found it yet. And that's the key, I am at that point now where I can say honestly I don't ...

iWobble at last!!!!!!!
"now we're getting THAT WOBBLE SOUND"
...that has already existed for 50+ yrs, and is a sound that any synth with an LFO and resonant filter can do
{which is, like, 99% of them}

Re: Is It Just Me?
the DX7 still goes for way less that it would cost you back then. and that kills most of the 'vintage is overpriced' argument. it's a blanket statement that is for the most part false. it's just the big 70s synth or rare item that are holding or increasing their value it's similar to the way 50s/60...

Re: Is It Just Me?
Thats Nitpikking. Most of those you can find for under 10K without a problem. I think you missed the point of my post. I clarified your point. but now you want the move the goalpost up to $10k from $5k and claim that I'm 'nitpicking' ? no wonder i barely post here anymore. reading comprehens...

Re: Is It Just Me?
in actuality there are only a few analogs that really go for 5K or 10K plus. There are at least a dozen that today will go for $5k+, assuming it is fully functional and in relatively excellent condition (and this is not counting tonetweakers or cms-level maintenance which could balloon this list to...

Re: just me? or do youtube demos all suck
yes, in this case it's you.
something rubbed off from someone somewhere and you got infected.
it's called the attitude of entitlement, devoid of gratitude, that is all so common nowadays.
i hope you get over it.

Re: Alesis Ion vs Korg MS-2000
i recommend the ms-2000 all the time as a great starter, because everything is logically present on the surface. and although polyphony is only 4 voice, this synth does a bit of everything but is never overwhelming. it's timbral vocabulary is wider than most VAs thanks to DWGS. And it has a good voc...

Re: Gear Envy.
I find it hard to take anyone "too" seriously if there's not some crazy digitals peppered in there too. everyone in a serious studio setup should have something fm, something GOOD va, some good samplers, and ... some people just don't want the modern/accurate sound. they dig the "old balls" and a l...
