This one is no slouch either http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOSctvrUf24 Gotta love 'em huge CS-80 pads! and again, great synth work by Kristian Schultze. Great soundtrack and a fantastic movie! And this, while talking of CS-80 in movie soundtracks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj9UcKj7Dxo&feature...

A bit. that is the OB-8.ted1986 wrote:I'd also like to know what synth was used in that track. It sounds very similar to "I'm So Excited" by The Pointer Sisters.

They did, the classic marimba sound in "Africa" is the GS-1. Check my list atop the thread.goom wrote:I'm I dreaming, or do I recall reading that they also used a GS1 or GS2 at some point?

Re: Your favourite synth anthem of all time!
Only the cues that Pat Gleeson plays on feature the E-mu modular (eg "Do Lung Bridge", "Letters from Home" and "Voyage" I think). The other synthesists used different setups: Nyle Steiner: EVI (used on its own for oboe, clarinet and bassoon sounds, and hooked up with the Synthasystem for bass, bras...

Re: Your favourite synth anthem of all time!
Easily, the cue "Orange Light" from Apocalypse Now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS1Xm5fjglA That track was recorded by Bernie Krause using the big Moog at Zoetrope studios*. Nyle Steiner later overdubbed some parts with his EVI. * According to Nyle there was definitely a string machine at Bernie'...

Brass sound in "Yes" by Merry Clayton?
This lovely track contains a nice synth brass sound. I've been debating about what synths this is...Oberheim, JP-8, Juno-60?

Always nice to get it confirmed!Micke wrote:Update:
The Clavinet on "Something About You" was a DX-7 played by Wally Badarou. He used the Synclavier for portamento counter-melodies and bells.

Re: Level 42 Something about you Clavi sound?
It's a FM clav sound played on the DX-7 via the TX-816 rack. No P5.

PS. I watched your ARP2600 videos on the tube. Excellent work. You are hereby renamed Automatic GASsay for showing off the ARP! Hey, thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and apologize for the unavoidable GAS the ARP inspires! I enjoyed it a lot, because for once it was a demonstration of how great the ...

Re: Vintage synthesizers used by Toto (and where)
The pads and brassy lead sound like CS-80 to me. Afaik, they used the CS-80's along with the Minimoog/SEM and ARP 2600/SCI sequencer on Toto's first album. They had the Polyfusion modulars by late 1979 or thereabouts, and they did use them live, but from what I understand they didn't record with th...

"Victims of Circumstance" and "Life is for living" are my favorite BJH songs. Do they feature the rev.2 or only OB-X?
