Re: Guess the synths...
http://hem.bredband.net/b120613/guessthesynth3.Mp3 Any more guesses on what synths were used on this track, anyone? Hint: almost all of the tracks on this cue were performed by Nyle Steiner. Micke The only thing I know about Nyle Steiner gearwise is that he invented the EWI (Electronic Wind Instrum...

Re: Just scored a DX-11
Wow Analogue Crazy, you'll have to change your name now !! Lol that was exatcly what I thought after I'd read who started the thread. Personally I'm not much for DX-9/11/100 but for £40 it's probably a very good lesson in FM synthesis. I'm really thinking about giving the DX-7 another chance....

Re: The thing that bothers me about the Little Phatty...
Yeah that was never a very popular feature. The Pro-one, P5, P10, OBX, OB-Xa, OB-8, Memorymoog, (or really any moog) has that feature. The only ones that come to the top of my head are the yamaha CS synths (including the 80), Korg PS-3xxx synths and not many more. Sh-5 and I think the 7 did too.. T...

Re: Guess the synths...
Nyle Steiner and Don Preston are the performers on cue #4 (aka Chef's head) - the cello-like part at the end of the cue was performed by Don Preston - recorded at Zoetrope or David Rubinson's Automatt studios. With Zappa Preston used both Moog and Arp instruments...could he have used the Arp2600 fo...

Re: Guess the synths...
A few more hints: Patrick Gleeson is the main performer on cue #2 (aka Do Lung Bridge) - recorded at Gleeson's Different Fur studios. Nyle Steiner is the main performer on cue #3 (aka Nung River) - recorded at Coppola's Zoetrope studios. Nyle Steiner and Don Preston are the performers on cue #4 (ak...

So, the sequencer intro to "Destination...." is probably done with the ARP 2600 then?

I probably guessed Omni because I've heard a lot of Joy Division lately and I've here on the board that they used the Omni for string sounds..Micke wrote::thumbup:iProg wrote:

Re: Depeche Mode goes vintage
I enjoy Fletch's statement that SOTU will be more electronic than PTA! (spits out mouthful of breakfast cereal) MORE!!!! WTF!!! I don't really get how it could be more electronic than PTA, that album's just pure analog dirt!!! I absolutely loved it, and "Wrong" is F*cking awesome. I'm soooo...

Re: snobbish question / best PW
I love the PWM on the Korg MS10. I actually like it so much that I rarely use the other waves. It's very bass-friendly. Korg in 1977: "We don't need to put pulse width modulation on the MS-20, it has two oscillators! Pulse width modulation is only for faking a dual oscillator sound with a single os...

Re: Guess the synths...
Regarding the strings on cue #1; I sent Nyle a bunch of pics of a number of vintage stringers (RS-202, RS-505, VP-330, Solina, ARP Omni etc.) and just got a reply from him. He's not 100% certain but he believe it was an ARP Omni. Chances are there's some Moog strings in there too. Thus the correct ...
