Re: Favorite synth sounds
Afaik, the sequenced parts on "Save A Prayer" and "Hold back the rain" were actually recorded with the SH-2/CSQ-100 combo. Nick did use the Jup-8 for the bendy lead line on SAP though (and I always thought it was the Prophet 5 :-). In the "Night Boat" clip we can see the Jup-4, Crumar performer, Pr...

I'm listening to "Reap The Wild Wind" by Ultravox right now, I really like the string lead sound. ARP?

Re: Favorite synth sounds
Afaik, the Jup-4 is responsible for the ascending "ghost tones" on Night Boat . Nick didn't use a Jup-8 on DD's debut album, besides it was recorded in late 1980 almost a year before that synth appeared. I bet the Prophet 5 provided the fat synth textures that can be heard on this song. Micke http:...

Sold 1/3 of my rig =/
I was in desperate need of cash and feel like I wasn't going to use them from now on, and it feels good to optimize the rig for upcoming projects. I sold my mk1 DX-7, my Wavestation EX and the JX-8P. Next year I'm looking forward to get a Prophet 08, some new stands and a new mixing table...as soon ...

In the chorus around 1:20 and on, there are a number of sounds. Not sure which ones you mean, but my guess is the Fairlight CMI

Re: Prophet five rev 2
To the list of Rev 1 & Rev 2 users we can add L.A. session keyboardists Ralph Grierson and Michael Boddicker. Yet another user of the Rev 1 P5 was Klaus Doldinger who used one on Passport's albums "Lifelike" (recorded live in Stuttgart and Mainz, June 1980), "Oceanliner" (studio album, 1980), "Blue...

Re: Synth in "Relax" by Frankie goes to Hollywood?
Relax was done on a Fairlight CMI (sampled bass and piano quavers etc), Roland Jupiter 8 (pissing sound, strings/pad, explosions etc), Roland GR-300 guitar synths and a Linndrum. They were also using a Synclavier but not until the second single "Two Tribes". http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr08/ar...

Re: What synth has the most hand-on control?
Interesting you should mention the JP-8000 as I was under the impression it was quite limited on the modulation side of things? One thing I do like about the Micron is the endless modulation possibilities. From what I heard the Virus is a lot more capable in this department? The topic title had not...
