That's exactly what I hear as a JP-8!Synthaholic wrote:It's that really FAT resonant bass sound (3 notes) that you hear after "when you want to come..." about a minute into the song. You can't miss it.
It literally sounds like "BOW BOW BOOWWWW"... hence my description.
I think it's E, C#, D.

Re: Looking for advice...Mono synth replacement
The LP would probably satisfy anyone who is looking for a reliable Moog sound. I would like to get one sometime.
Other monosynths I'd recommend are of course the Pro-One (my only mono at the moment)
Not as pricy as ARP Oddy or other mono classics and a VERY fat sound!

Apart from Rush and Genesis, my favorite prog rock band is It Bites. John Beck is one of my biggest influences!

Re: Synth in "Relax" by Frankie goes to Hollywood?
Relax was done on a Fairlight CMI (sampled bass and piano quavers etc), Roland Jupiter 8 (pissing sound, strings/pad, explosions etc), Roland GR-300 guitar synths and a Linndrum. They were also using a Synclavier but not until the second single "Two Tribes". http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr08/ar...

Where on Fugazi?Micke wrote:The Emulator was the original one and the PPG was a Wave 2.2 (not 2.3). Kelly was additionally using a Yamaha GS-1 on "Fugazi" but I don't think it was his synth.

Re: Keyboards and synthesizers in Progressive Rock
That is indeed a great setup. If you have seen the DVD from the "Live from Loreley" show in Germany during the Clutching At Straws tour in 1987, that rig includes Minimoog, Pro-One, PPG Wave 2.3, Jupiter-8, MKS-100 electric piano, DX-7 and more! Yup, Kelly's setup from the mid 80's was pretty aweso...

iprog, I guess we both are right: Extract from Recoil Website Questions & Answers: Q: Is it a mini moog bass we hear on 'World In My Eyes', 'Halo', and 'Enjoy The Silence' ? A: Again, can't remember exactly -most likely a combination of moog and Flood's Arp. :) Indeed we are :D Enjoy The Silence in...

Re: oddball synths
Hey iProg, are you referring to this TOTP "performance" from 1981: Their synth setup here includes the following: Billy Currie: Arp Odyssey mk II, Yamaha SS-30, Yamaha CP-80 (I think), Oberheim OB-X and CS-80. Midge Ure: Yamaha CS-40M, Yamaha SS-30 and CS-50 Chris Cro...

Oh, of course. The rig in the TOTP video of "Sleepwalk" includes lots of analog monos. I can see a CS-30 and a ARP Axxe....

Re: Favorite synth sounds
Just a few Depeche Mode references here.. Altough they used to play samplers a lot, they did some interesting synth sounds too. Just for example: "World In My Eyes" bassline , done with some layers including a minimoog. "Stripped" intro lead The intro to "World In My Eyes" is the mighty ARP 2600 af...

I don't really think I can add anything to what's been said about Mark Kelly, except that my dream rig would be Kelly's from the Misplaced Childhood-era. Perfect. That is indeed a great setup. If you have seen the DVD from the "Live from Loreley" show in Germany during the Clutching At Straws tour ...

Micke, is it the Wave 2.2 or 2.3?
