Re: prince synth brass sound

I seem to recall reading an interview with his bass player where he mentioned there was a bit of organ that overdubbed with the oberheim as well.

as celebutante mentioned, the trick is the chord inversions and layering.

Re: FX for acidlab bassline?

Been playing around with an EH Metal Muff to run my 303 through. THICK distortion, this is not a subtle pedal. Doesn't mask the 303's character if you keep the distortion low. the tone controls are a nice touch, you can reduce the bass to get the effected sound to sit in a mix better. on the 303 sli...

Re: Worst.. hardware sequencer.. EVER

Well I'm going to go ahead and officially add the Fantom G to this list #-o No drum grid editor. No step sequencer. No "real" piano roll editor. Roland's "Microscope" edit is their replacement for the piano roll editor but its a joke. It would take 5 hours to enter a simple 4-bar pattern into that e...

Re: REVIEW: Ploytec GM5 USB Midi Interface

interesting results. thanks for posting this. if it can get dbl the accuracy of midex ( which is utter c**p btw ), id love to try this and build one 5x5 port.. that is, if it retains the 1.7ms deviation max at 5x5 operation.. then again one could build two and divide the load.. for ex, 2 x 2x2. for...

tr909 - drums
tx81z - lately bass
jd800 - the piano (i think it was patch I53) or the M1 piano
dw8000 - there is an organ sound that is used a lot, esp in the lower octaves
m1 - organs, strings, pianos

Re: FX for acidlab bassline?

yeah i couldn't find a software editor on roland's international site.

i could probably make one but the VF-1 has a metric shitton of parameters. might just suck it up and use it from the front panel.

Re: FX for acidlab bassline?

On tallowwaters recommendation I picked up a VF-1. Going to tinker with it today.

Is there a software editor for this thing? If not, I could probably make one in Sound Quest.

Re: A Great Big Pile Of Acid!

Got my FR Revo R2 today! Forgot how much fun it is making patterns with that thing. I love the interface and the remix function. It shouldn't take long to be comfortable enough with it to use live.

What settings/effects are you guys using to get a more realistic 303 sound?

Re: What is your live set up?

Monster pro 900 power conditioner Essential, especially if you have a bunch of vintage gear. Some of the power i've seen at live gigs has been deplorable. I always keep one of those radio shack outlet testers to check the power outlet before I plug in. Amazing how many home-grown quad-boxes are wir...

Re: A Great Big Pile Of Acid!

x0xb0xes are selling for pretty cheap right now. $800 and under. This is a good time to buy fully completed units. no doubt. they aren't selling too many either it seems like. the revo has a couple of important advantages over the x0xb0x that are more pressing for me: CV in for cutoff control and p...

Re: A Great Big Pile Of Acid!

Just put in my order for a FR Revolution R2. Its not my first choice for a 303 emulator by a long shot, but it seems to be the best unit for live use. Also, this is the first time I've ever sold something and bought it again. #-o I had the 1st gen Revo's when they first came out and used it a lot bu...

Re: I know it's a little early....................

I'm inclined to believe that Roland may very well be up to something big because their engineers sure as s**t aren't working on the Fantom G OS bugs... of which there are many... or its shitty sequencer editing facilities.

Re: What is your live set up?

Any glaring omissions besides talent? Personally I've found that mixing internally (or 'chaining') your synths is never as good an idea has even a cheap mixer quality-wise. yeah you are probably right - the desire to bring less gear can sometimes get you in trouble. the little behringer i hav...
