Re: What synthesizer?

:) welcome to our world! There are tons of freebies out there, which doesn't help! Then there's all the effects too (delays, reverb, etc etc etc) Commercial softsynths can cost anything from a few $ up to a couple of hundred. Definitely worth checking Computer Music magazine ( http://www.computermus...

Re: What synthesizer?

Hi, Monotimbral means you create a single sound and the whole keyboard is used to play that sound. Multitimbral means you can patch different sounds together into a "performance" and play different sounds on different parts of the keyboard, or stack multiple sounds so they all play at once. I guess ...

Re: What synthesizer?

OK, you could start with a Novation Xiosynth (I think it's called a Xio now). It's a midi controller/audio interface and synth all in one so you wouldn't have to buy too much stuff for interfaces (xio worths with USB) I've already mentioned a DAW, so I'll move on.... A nice software synth to get sta...

Re: What synthesizer?

DAW = Digital Audio Workstation. Cubase, etc. VST is an audio technology. They are software plugins that you can run from your DAW (or a program that supports them). Basically it's software synths and effects. Master keyboard is the main keyboard you use to control other devices. It can be a synth o...

Re: SHIOITOR

I'm just wondering how many of those using the D16 plugs have actually played and recorded with the hardware units the software is emulating. I think the plug ins have a nice sound, but they don't sound like my real 808, 101 or the 909 I just tracked with and they don't move in the same way either....

Re: SHIOITOR

This synth is supposed to have a killer filter, we'll have to wait and see. And if it helps bring the price of the 101 down to about £200 I'd be happy!

I just wish they'd come up with a different name, I mean.... SH101tor, or shioitor or whatever. How do you pronounce it? Shitter?!

Re: The great FM8 Xmas medley

tnx all \o/ hybrid88: nah, not really.. a few days. I think I've spent more time on the video and the rendering of it. Remember, it's tracking, which is faster for these kinds of orchestral/counterpoint/details than anything else. I can 'type' a composition like this faster than the fastest player ...

Re: Best Synth, Worst Synth under $500

I would have to say the best would be the evolver - you do get a lot of stuff for what you pay and it is so flexible with modulation routings. Once you get used to the interface it is a very imediate wynth to program on. ...On the roland/Korg issue... I really dont much care for what roland make no...

Re: Best Synth, Worst Synth under $500

In my (limited) experience using synths I'd say...

BEST: AN1x
WORST: Never owned a bad synth... (lucky me!)

Edit: tried some very dodgy synthedit creations though... I guess they don't count!
