Laptop based setup - ergonomics

Hello all, I've been searching around google/amazon/etc. for a suitable stand for my laptop. The situation is, I have a small desk with an an1x at the front and my laptop behind it. I need a decent stand to elevate the laptop above the an1x and be able to type comfortably as well as use my DAW softw...

I've been watching the Kore 2 videos on youtube, and I must say it looks like a nice bit of kit. I tried the kore player (from the Computer Music mag DVD) and it's been a lot of fun. Since I'm rearranging my work area to incorporate my laptop (I was getting very lazy/unproductive without it being pe...

Really got back into it in the 90s when I got into clubbing... +1 Another +1, they were great times :) 1988 to about 2002 when it all started to go horribly wrong. I'll be 40 next year, all the guys I work with are into generic guitar bands and they don't get my fascination. Mind you I don't get th...

Space. Space stuff, science fiction, weird mysterious gadgets. Dr Who.

Then I heard Pulstar, then Oxygene came along.

First hardware synth: microkorg (I guess you don't need a picture!)

First software synth: impOSCar, but I've used open source software before then (that doesn't really count as "buying" though).

Just found this demo:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IJTKuVPnww

It's in Japanese, but there's lots of sounds, close-ups and a good demo of the synth in action. Pretty easy to see what's happening if you don't speak the lingo.

I'd like to see Korg do a kaoss pad with a kaoss pad attached to it
Umm, no that would be silly.

How about an all-analogue microkorg? (with a kaoss--<snip>)
But keep the DWGS waveforms too, so it could do part analogue, part digital. Hmm, a micromek....

Phoscyon is so frustrating to use in Sonar. The online manual is not helping at all. How do I get the patterns in the Phoscyon demo to be loaded into the Sonar sequencer? How can I get the pattern to play? Also, the demo is not letting me control the BPM. What's up with that? Hi, You can use Phoscy...

+1 for phoscyon, but I'm not turning it into a phoscyon v audiorealism fight!! I also like TAL Bassline, the freebie sh-101 emulator. OK, it's not a 303 of course, but it does some very nice acid sounds. As does cakewalk's freebie Triangle, but there again that's not a 303 either. OK, I'll shut up n...

Yeah, I use reaper all the time. Great program and great performance.

Renoise supports VSTs too, but there's no free option with that (apart from the demo). However it too has a reasonable license fee.

I don't use the vocoder(!), but I use it for weird and wonderful f/x, definitely string sounds, plus I managed to get a reasonable trancey lead out of it. Oh yeah, and bass... It's also my chillout-on-the-sofa synth and it doubles up as a midi controller for my laptop. Microkorg's a crazy little syn...

I just try renoise in my linux box and it sounds fantastic!! Goodbye windows! But there is nothing like playing with the knobs. Yeah :) I just spent the day porting my stuff onto my nice new laptop. I'll be buying renoise when my funds recover. You can use different versions under the same licence,...

Hi, Welcome to the forum! Nice post you made too. If you want to explore software synths I suggest you download a few freebies and a suitable host. Renoise supports VST and it looks great (I'm checking out the linux demo right now before buying it). For a more traditional DAW you could try reaper. A...
