Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....
Elektron never made analog products Ahem  SIDstation = digital controled analogue sound chip! Technically salvaged from a C64 but still an analogue synth as such. :P Anyhowz i think the common way of making electronic music these is editing loops with VST fx rather than synthesis techniques b...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....
Well said dude as the mention of sysex did make me shudder but messing around with the hexidwhatever on my ole Drehbank got a preset AN1X template to reduce the range of octaves for each sequencer step a knob was assigned too however this wouldn't be something I'd like to start from scratch but I'm ...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....
You can potentially have access to every paramater on a synth with MIDI. Typically you'll have some CCs where applicable, but sysex can run wild. This is how software editors are able to do their thing in VERY large part. Thus, it's totally possible to do things such as your stating with MIDI, but ...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....
Sorry to correct you again dude but I think it was the AN1X that had sound morphing before Clavia plus it also allowed a more selective control and variable grouping of parameters via it's control matrix which most people didn't get thanks to the c**p manual, of course Clavia took it to a whole new ...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....
As I noted earlier, it's not a workstation or some kind of "groovebox" (essientially a performance forcused/oriented workstation). In any regard, getting more back to point, I'm essientially hearing a prediction of a return towards "groovebox" type instrumentation if I'm reading things correctly. S...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....
I can't speak 100% for the V-synth but I'll bet the step modulator can't slide parameters from any two defined points in a pattern or be access any parameter on any step by simply holding the step key and tweaking what you want, in this environment the vocal synth on the Monomachine really becomes a...

Re: VA synths with instant program/patch change?
with a multitimbral synth, and considering you have 6 extra parts available.... Why not write Program changes into the bars with rests? Say you have a 4 bar riff between two tracks.... Track 1 bar 1 is your first timbre Track 1 bar 2 is a program change Track 2 bar 2 is the second timbre Track 2 ba...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....
Elektron are holding the torch and hence are the most innovative new electronic instruments made in the past decade as getting electronic intruments out of the studio and into the live arena as a true performance instrument has still yet to be realised properly. I gotta disagree with you there, I c...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....
Software has been mainly leading the way in fresh sound design for the past 10yrs with infinite possibilities with a more production style approach to making music however having too many options can be distracting and counter creative also this analytical approach to creating it has led to a very u...

VA synths with instant program/patch change?
What VA synths out there have instant program change ideal for use with pattern/groove sequencers? I’m looking for something to use with the extra 6 external MIDI sequencer tacks on my Monomachine but if there’s a noticeable half second pause on a new pattern when a patch is changing then it won’t d...

Re: any suggestions on midi splitter interfaces?
I use this....

sadly discontinued but a rock solid little box with near zero MIDI lag.
They do come up on ebay from time to time however I'm not sure if they only made a 240v version being a small UK company.

Alesis Micron opinion
What your opinion on the Alesis Micron? Is it more for preset tweaking or can you actually get deep into it if you know what your doing via the limited UI? Does the sequencer's control resolution step badly or is it a very useful tool for live/jam scenario? Does the sound suffer from bad aliasing li...

Re: The Complete DX7 by Howard Massey
I sold a copy of that with my DX7S tho I did have a lot of interest in the book by itself. It's a very comprehensive walk through of the DX7 and FM synthesis but there are also many other books out there that cover the same ground however the highlight of the book is the patch building guide which c...
