Argument aside; When I was first getting into music tech in the early/mid 90’s a really basic set up with an ST, a small handful of 2nd hand shitty synths/samplers (by today’s standards) and basic production equipment would set you back £2k at least. These days all you need is a half decent PC + sou...

I've just upgraded from a KP2 to KP3 and the KP3 makes the KP2 look like a gimmick. The KP2 however has many FX that aren't locked to a timesync and you can have two fingers on the pad at once so you can switch between back and forth from one level to the other however the KP3's LED pad lets you kno...

Re: real time time shifting
is there any hardware that can do this, fx style? any old samplers where you can assign time stretch to a parameter or anything like that? I remember this a little while ago which almost got made obsolete overnight with software like Live ect. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun00/articles/rolandvp...

Get a generic string patch and turn down the levels of all modulators and set their keytrack to a negative exponential curve that rolls off towards the higher octaves, I find setting the mid point to C0 and using just the upper curve (like you would on an analogue filter keytrack) a little easier to...

Would you mind sharing the soundbank you made for those sounds? I'd like to see how they were made, that's all. Learning experience :) Sadly the patches were lost during the upgrade to V2.0 and they were saved on my old PC which has long gone kaput. :( I'll try to do some more Jarre covers in the f...

Could someone tell me why people still sequence with hardware? Is it for a more intuitive feel, or that kind of thing..? I only really use the computer for arranging but even then I prefer to flick between patterns on the fly and record the audio. Altering parameter values on the fly for each step ...

All three are good but I think you have to balance sonic versatility with how dedicated you are going to be at programming it. You can have the most versatile synth ever but if it’s a ball ache to get the results you want then it doesn’t really add to the creative process, I know this being an ex DX...

The NS10's I believe were originally hi-fi speakers but they aren't know for there supreme sound rather an upfront midrange which equate to 'if you can make it sound good on these then they will sound good on anything'. I use AKG240 monitor headphones which are good and relatively inexpensive. You c...

Sorry to seem arsey here dude but I don’t need to ‘bend’ anything when it’s much easier to click up Reaktor and put it through a grainshifter FX for that random ‘glitch’ sound. Circuit bending in a an interesting concept with using retro gear in ways that its not designed for but for producing sound...

I've A-B'ed both of Arturia's Moog emulators with my Moog Source and I'd say the Arturia stuff is about 98% there. It's just missing a certain "presence" that the Source has in spades. I notice it live but not in a mix. You will always get that gritty upper mid range presence with real analogue but...

Re: Yea reallllllllllly
As for Autechre, I thought they're pretty much all software these days, lots of Max/MSP stuff. I'd be very surprised if they didn't appear with a couple of laptops. I think they used a Monomachine and Machinedrum the last time they played out...as well as other stuff... Yup, they did use laptops bu...

thanks for the encouragement! does this beast sound different than their minimoog when a similar patch is connected? As far as I know the V2 Modular had revised filters which I believe are same as on their Mini that came out just before the update. I do know the MMV’s filter is a close emulation of...

I seen this soft vs hard argument many times before which always ends up revolving around keyboarders loving the phatt raw sound from playing an analogue in isolation on one side and sequencer/producer type’s in the other corner saying the difference with emulation VST’s isn’t that important in the ...

The MS20 and Polysix sound ok but put next to an Arturia sound a little weak in comparison and I don't see the point of recreating obsolete ROMplers. The hardware interface is a good idea but the build quality is very toy like and it can't really be used on much else. A nice idea but give me an Artu...
