Re: oddball synths
can't believe this trainwreck didn't get mentioned yet! http://www.killedaway.com/images/RolandD2.jpg i actually bought this thing despite the dozens of reviews i read that said it was difficult to program and use. i figured i'd be that one guy that learned the thing and got something amazing -- or ...

Re: Convince me on the Monomachine, or not
it's funny; an analog MD or MM would be great, but i don't have any interest in it. it's hard for me to even imagine what that would be like, as i'm so pleased with the way they sound right now. seems like going to a more analog-sounding style would take away some of its uniqueness. but that doesn't...

Re: anyone have a dbx 266 (or similar)? i need your power specs
sigh... i don't know why i always assume the manufacturers won't have the info i want -- sometimes they do. as i was having trouble finding a suitable replacement, i e-mailed them, and got this reply (less than a day later, mind you) from Jason at dbx: "Unfortunately, dbx no longer stocks these powe...

Re: New Future Retro product coming.
i e-mailed Jered regarding the battery replacement in my Revo, and snuck in a quick question regarding any future products, to which he replied:
"New units, yes we plan to announce a new product in about 1-2 weeks.
Thanks,
Jered"

i bet they're both the same, and he just tuned one higher than the other for grins. that would be hilarious.

i can just imagine you leaving the store furious -- like, because you couldn't find the waveforms, you lifted your head back and let out a roar, flipped the MM in the air, and ran out screaming.Bitexion wrote:I couldn't even find out how to listen to the pure waveforms. So I left the store.

Re: How to make analog synthesizer sounds like C64?
it has a large DIN on the back that can output composite video/audio via RCA.Bitexion wrote:But does the C64 have any audio output? How would you record it? Or send the sound to a mixer?
Can't remember it having any audio outs back when I had a C64..but then again, I only ever used it for games.

Re: How to make analog synthesizer sounds like C64?
No he's talking about if you get someone to professionally cut your frontpanels from aluminum and/or silkscreen the design. You don't have to do that though, mines in a radioshack project box. ahhh... yeah, i'll likely go decidedly low-rent on that front. a project box with sharpie labelling suits ...

Re: How to make analog synthesizer sounds like C64?
when you say "panels", are you referring to the various PCBs? 'cause that's not that bad really. the SIDs i'll get free (i just have to put in the effort to remove them from each C64), so it comes down to all the other parts, for me.Altitude wrote:The SIDs (~$25 ea) and the panels ($140) is where it hurts

Re: Convince me on the Monomachine, or not
I guess I'm the only one that truly loves this machine. no way, i'm right there with you. even if we were just going by sound alone, the Monomachine is my favorite bit of gear out of my entire studio. it's also my favorite sequencer ever . it just isn't my most often used machine, but that's becaus...

Re: How to make analog synthesizer sounds like C64?
It is pretty cheap. Go to http://www.avishowtech.com/mbhp/buy.html for pricing of the parts. thanks for the link. this is surprisingly affordable. the main cost seems to be the SID themselves and the time and labor (all of which are cheap for me right now). :D Just to give everyone gas... :D [youtu...

well done, sir. keen eyes! when i uploaded the pic i thought, "i wonder if anyone's gonna recognize it... nah, not at that angle". this one's in pretty bad shape, but it works. of course it resides with my SHS-10.tallowwaters wrote:

Re: Convince me on the Monomachine, or not
all day to make music = mnm + md. half hour before i have to go do something else = fr & tr. hey, we have this in common as well. if i don't have a lot of time to goof off, i'll usually mess with just my Revolution. if i've got all day, i hit my Monomachine and microKORG; my Electribes land somewhe...

Re: Convince me on the Monomachine, or not
despite that description of its sound though, in addition it's still capable of very smooth, soft, beautiful sounds. keep settings simplified and it almost does that by default. this is quite true, but in my experience, it is quick to get nasty, and takes a little finesse to get (or stay) elegant a...
