Re: step seqencer
Step sequencers, for the most part, are designed to output control voltages to control the pitch of monophonic analog synthesizers or any other modulation destination that accepts control voltages (ie, filter cut-off). What sort of INPUT does the sequencer your wanting to use have. Most step sequenc...

Re: Roland JDXA, any thoughts?
Another question, sorry but I've seen in your YouTube videos that you have/had a V Synth, I'm in the same position, again two totally different synths but maybe there is a bit of "overlap" on the digital side, how do they complement together or maybe the JDXA will make the V Synth "redundant"? As a...

Re: Roland JDXA, any thoughts?
OK: A program (patch) on the JD-XA can contain up to any of the following: 4x dual oscillator monophonic analog synths 4x triple oscillator polyphonic digital synths So my original comment was saying that instead of thinking the analog section is 4 voice polyphonic (It CAN be when "POLY STACK" is en...

Re: Roland JDXA, any thoughts?
Please stop thinking of the analog section being 4 voice polyphonic. Instead, think of it being 4 dual oscillator monophonic synths. I'm mostly happy with the JD-XA. The sequencer is a disappointment, though. I was hoping it would work like the JD-Xi's sequencer, which it does in most ways. However,...

Re: Manual for Roland TR-707
Manuals for nearly all Roland instruments are available for free download from their website. Just type in the model number into the search bar on their website and you should be directed to the appropriate page.

Re: How many hardware synths do you own?
64 for System 8 mode and 64 for each plug out. That'd be 256 if you have all 3 plug out slots filled.stf-ran wrote: Now how many presets does the new Roland System 8 hold?

Re: Midi module
Akai made a "Vintage Synth" module (can't remember the model #), but I don't know much about it and it's kinda rare. Roland made "Vintage Synth" & "60s & 70s Keyboards" expander boards for their JV series of synths and also made a 1U stand-alone module for the "Vintage Synth". Both of the a fore men...

WHAT? I love my MiniBrute and MicroBrute and now my DrumBrute. I'd love a MatrixBrute, but not sure it's worth $2k. Damn fine synth, though.griffin avid wrote: They just killed Analog synths....drum machines.....controllers....what's left?.

Re: First Synth and Drum Machine second opinion
Sounds like good choices to me. Of the bands you listed, I'm only familiar with Daft Punk which used samplers quite a bit in the past, but I think they're getting more into synths-only (not my type of music). I recommend getting a small mixer (8 channels should be sufficient to start but might outgr...

Re: Broken key onRoland JV-80 - DIY servicing and fixing
Sounds like the dreaded "red goo" problem that plagues early 90s Roland keyboards. The epoxy that Roland used on weighted keyboards on the U-20, D-70, JD-800 and I'm now assuming the JV-80, liquefies over time and drips into the keybed and makes the weights fall off. You might search "red goo" here ...

Re: First synth for Berlin School-like sounds
When I think of Berlin School, I think of monophonic sequences through a delay/echo. So for your first synth, I'd get one with a built-in sequencer. The Mother 32 will probably get closest to the big Moog modular sound. I've got the MicroBrute which has a very unique sound - different than Moog stuf...

Re: Pick from 4 synths
Without knowing what synths you already have and the type(s) of music you make, it's hard to make a recommendation.
But, yeah. The ESQ-1 is a gnarly (in a good way) sounding synth and is highly underrated.
