I actually have never used the pedals on my 808 since I have the Kenton MIDI kit. I would think thr DP-2's would work. If not, LiveWire (sold at Guitar Center) sells a pedal with a selectable polarity. I've got a DP-2 at home. If I have time, I'll give it a try. I'm sure it will work, bacause I have...

Not the answer you're looking for, but would save a trip to the tech and/or opening the unit up:

By a couple of footpedals/switches and plug them into the back...

Back in the late 80's / early 90's I was lucky enough to own both machines at the same time. Actually, I bought the 909 first and later found the 808. I ended up selling the 909 in the mid 90's when techno was getting pular and 909's were fetching aound $600 (more than double what I paid for it). At...

How about a vector synth like the Prophet VS, Wavestation or TG33?

I'm not familiar with those songs, but +1 on the Roland R series. I've had a R8M in my arsenal for over 15 years. Great sounds. One of the tricks for "realistic" drums is programming. Mess with the accents or velocity to create a human feel. EDIT: I just re-read the orignal post. Looking for "cheap"...

I read somewhere that you can "randomize" a patch, Does it yield decent results? This tread inspired me to fire up the VS and mess with the randomizer. Most of the sounds it generates are weird, but cool, noises. Very industrail sounding, especially when in unison. Every now and then, a melodic typ...

Yes, there is a patch randomizer, but I have never used it. I'll have to consult the manual for the key strokes.

I'd been lusting afer a PPG Wave for some time and picked up a VS keyboard ealry last year. It didn't quitte turn out to be what I was looking for, but it is still a unique instrument. I like the unison mode which has a nasty, low-fi type of digital sound. I thinks that's what NIN used the VS for on...

Actually, the VX-2000 has a MiniDV deck built in. I used to shoot on MiniDV and then transfer to SVHS for tape editing.

I'll have to look into the Firewire PCMCIA card. That would probably be the best route. That way I stay digital.

Thanks for all the input, guys!

Thanks for all the info. I'm an old fart and totally old school when it comes to audio/video production. I have not done much digital audio recording and no digital video editing. I do have a 3CCD Sony VX-2000 I bought nearly 10 years ago when I used to do event videograpghy, but I'd always transfer...

Inexpensive Hard Disk Camcorder with stereo Mic Jack - WTB

I'm thinking about buying an inexpensive hard disk camcorder to record improv stuff on my synths. That way if there's something I like, I can dump it to the 'puter - otherwise record over it. It needs to have stereo mic jack so I can bump down the audio signal with a submixer and keep a decent sound...

The 424 is a great machine. Back in the early 90's when I worked for a local pro music store, that was my top seller. I, personally, had an older model (246) before upgrading to the 238 8 track Syncassette. The 246 has sweepable hi & low EQ's as opposed to the 424's fixed freq. hi & lows, but the 42...

EDIT (Dec. 31, 2012) I have keys the work with Roland HS-60, Juno 106, Jupiter 6 & Sh-101. They might work with other synths as well. White / Natural keys: $10 shipped within Cont. US. Black / Flat / Sharp: $8 each shipped I have keys from a Korg PolySix which also work with Mono/Poly, Poly 61 and ...
