MJH is on the right track, but patchbays really shine with complex MIDI rigs with multiple controllers, sequencers an such. Patchbays have multiple MIDI INs & OUTs (8x8 is a typical configuration) and allow you to route the signal from the different INs & OUTs. Some models allow merging of mutliple ...

Ya know, if your experiment turns out to be a flop, I've seen new unfinished wooden cabinets for Minimoogs for sale on eBay. Or you could hire a furniture maker to custom build you a new one. Yeah, I've seen those. If it does turn out to be a flop, I might look into have a custom case made out of a...

No, that's cool. I probably shouln't have used a 30+ year old synth as my guinea pig for paint stripping. I'll try sanding a bit before I apply the stain. I'm optimistic...

I can't beleive you say you have furniture refinishing experience with one breath, then you take a damn heat gun to vintage walnut! What were you thinking? I did say SOME experience and that was over 15 years ago. I had never stripped paint before, only lacquer. I saw the heat gun technique used on...

Why didn't you just rebuild it with a better quality wood, if I may ask? The black is a nice idea, though, but it works only when it's flawless, IMHO. My woodworking skills are limited. Plus, the walnut parts that were not painted on the inside looked nice. The black didn't look too bad, but I figu...

MiniMoog Refinishing Log - Do's & Don'ts

I picked up a Mini back in the summer that was painted black by the seller's previous owner. The paint job wasn't too bad and I thought I'd keep it that way, but I bought a Buffer Board kit form eBay seller marriedwithpatchcoards which is supposed to keep the synth in tune better. I took the Mini (a...

I owned the HR-16 & 16:B back in the late 80's/early 90's. I only used them with MIDI. I never used the tape sync feature. Could it be that the tape sync code that is used on the HR's is also used on other drum machines? Maybe someone here knows that answer or has/can experiment with the tape sync. ...

HS-60 (Juno 106) WACKY Voice

I just picked up a HS-60. One of the 6 voices plays a totally random sound (well, not the same programmed sound as the other voices) that sounds like a miscalibrated MiniMoog. I've read that it is common for a JU-106 to have dead voices due to dead vcf/vca IC's, but this is an oscillator gone wacky!...

Since I don't use (much) software, I guess I have no use for it. I am watching videos of Ableton Live on YouTube right now, but they only show WHAT you can do with it, not HOW you do it. For $500, I don't see what it does that other multitracks do. I wish there was someplace where you can go (real o...

The triggers allow you to press them and keep them depressed...like a x0x style sequencer (keep in mind the Elektron Machinedrum has 256 possible events in a one bar loop ie 16 different sounds vs 16 slots of x0x) so 256 is actually very useful. Also, it is not like MPC pads...each pad is a switch ...

I must be missing something. For $450 - $1400, it must do something more than a light show or atonal sound controller. Z It's an open source type of thing. Anybody can design different programs and uses for it. You could use it somewhat like a x/y controller for adjusting parameters. You could use ...

I used to run individual drum sounds of my 808 through my SH-2's filter for very interesting results. I don't remember ever running all the sounds through it, though.
