I thought all MPCs loaded samples into ram for playing

Mostly agree with those points, but it is useful to note that the supernova is always somewhat smooth.. it has a certain glassy smooth character that while sounding amazing, cannot easily be escaped.

for the record that's not turning quantization off, it's changing the time signature..

most step sequencers can't turn off quantization, but most can change the time signature.

If you just want to take samples of the classic TR's + other classic machines I would recommend an electribe ES-1 or ESX - then you get the classic TR style sequencing as well.
