Re: A Tr 909 or something modern?
and as for electro sounding more dull than techno? um... check your history books, there would be no techno without electro. That's the kind of unqualified statement that doesn't really help any argument. Perhaps he means dull as opposed to bright, as in having less high frequencies. That's what I ...

Re: A Tr 909 or something modern?
If the 909 sounds cheesy ... it is purely the users fault ... I suggest perhaps modding the kick and hi-hats just a little.. but in the end. The 909 will only love you back if you give it the right special care.. It really benfits the "nit-picker". An important aspect of the 909 is accent and more ...

Re: A Tr 909 or something modern?
I'm hoping for a good discussion here, and I appreciate everyone's posts. I have a few follow-up questions, one for the sake of information and one to keep the discussion going. 1) So, what drum machines should I consider as alternatives to a 909? 2) While certainly "played out" is the 909 (808, 30...

Re: A Tr 909 or something modern?
like everyone else said, if you want a 909, get a 909... BUT saying that, since they are THE most cliched drums sounds known to man, why not deviate from the norm a little bit and get something different? A lot of detroit stuff used a 909, but a lot didn't, and it just seems in the day and age thos...

A vocoder with ability to sequence and/or p-lock it's functions would be amazing.RobotHeroes wrote:But what would it have? What would be their twist?kuroichi wrote:my bet is on a vocoder.

Re: Moog Little Phatty dissapointment and My new Moog
if I recall correctly, moog mentioned at one point that you can get an aliased type sound in the output and that it caused by the digital components scanning the controls.

Re: New Elektron Gear?
They always say they don't want to redo old products, but I could still imagine them making a sampling drum machine, with more memory but no internal sounds. Like a machine drum with just the UW part expanded, and 8 outputs. however I think an FX unit is quite likely. But i would rather have some ki...

Re: A Tr 909 or something modern?
I originally wrote a long detailed response but I'm just gonna say this.
Just go for the 909. Don't waste time with the other stuff unless you are interested in different sounds/workflow.
Everyone will say ''this can do it just as well'' etc...
But just get a 909,
and if it aint right, sell it.

Re: What's a 909 going for these days?
In the UK they go quite high. Average price is between £700-£900 ($1400-1800). But they often go for more on eBay. I got an absolutely mint 909 serviced and updated for £850 (about $1700). Sometimes you can get very nice ones from japan really cheap. But you have to be careful.

Re: Mungo Enterprises dDS drum synth
I finally figured out, after buying too many synths, that I'm fine with having multiple drum machines not in use, but not multiple synths not in use...I'm the opposite of everyone around here. To be honest drum machines make up most of my studio. I only have a couple of synths. And they are mainly ...

Re: Mungo Enterprises dDS drum synth
apparently it comes with a lifetime guarantee... I'm quite interested in the versatility of this machine. Although I would prefer a module to a rack unit.

Re: Jomox Xbases's....
the main difference is the x filter. There may be other slight differences such as the cost of parts also, but I couldn't say for sure. I think having owned the 999 I would say the 888 is a better option.
