Re: New track, not finished yet, looking for critiques
Ok, here's version 3: Click me I put in a new break before the key change (still needs some work though, some glitches plus I'm not sure I like the cello patch I used). I also extended the ending and added my (often overused in recent tracks) Vangelis-ish CS80 layer to the ending. Maybe instead of c...

Re: Such a Shame theWavestation Didn't Have Resonant LP Filters!
AFAIK resonance needed more DSP power than was readily available in synths back then. My 01/W didn't have resonant filters either. I think the first digital Korg to have resonant filters was the Prodigy or Trinity or something like that. The Roland D-50 has resonance, but its implementation of a "fi...

Re: Tom Oberheim to show new synth on Wednesday?
i think a lot of us here definitely want the SEM (i sure do), but we're also desperate for MORE OBERHEIM!!! we want the SEM AND we want tom to make something polyphonic again. I think a new 4-Voice would be ideal. Or maybe some sort of keyboard shell or module that can accept 1-4 of the SEMs and ha...

Re: New track, not finished yet, looking for critiques
I get the Vangelis comment a lot. ;) Here's draft #2: Clicky I made the following changes: 1. Shortened the beginning, shaving about 45 seconds off the total. 2. Added a (very rough at the moment) transition and key change in the middle (transition starting at 3:20). 3. Layered another arp after the...

New track, finally finished! (Rings of Neptune)
I've been tied up with work and other projects the past few months, but this weekend I finally got a chance to fire up ye olde synths. While going through the tracks stored in my Motif, I found this piece I started to work on before things got crazy, so I did a little more with it and am posting it ...

Re: Which Synth Had The Worst User Interface Ever?
I don't have experience with a lot of the mentioned synths, but of the ones I've owned: TX802, it's not THAT bad. The keypad is a lifesaver, and the tone select buttons act as submenu selectors. I can punch values in pretty quickly, as opposed to... the D-550. Now I've owned both a D-50 and now a D-...

Re: The first thing you sampled
I don't remember now, even though I remember getting my Motif XS and installing DIMMs in it. I know I got a few of my cats' meows into it, and a purr or two, but only one of my cats. The others would run away as soon as I got the microphone near them. The next thing I did was load a bunch...

Re: Yamaha dx7 advice
I'd say go for it - a scratchy headphone output is a minor issue and probably can be easily fixed (9 times out of 10 it's just dirty jack contacts).

Re: 106 clone using the clone voice chips?
I've often fantasized about building a synth, maybe even a poly someday, and writing my own firmware for it. Of course, like Adamstan said, the firmware and hardware have to be designed as a unit, since addressing schemes vary, the mapping of buttons/knobs varies, etc. If an open-source solution is ...

Re: Cars "Hello again" classic sync sound
Awesome!! Thanks. So it looks like the part that was throwing me off was the fact that ENV1 is controlling the sharp "squeal" sound. I was looking around near the Sync switch for some control over that, but I guess I was way off. Yep, that's the key to that "dowww" type sync sound. The slave oscill...

Re: Cars "Hello again" classic sync sound
That does look like a Synclavier. AFAIK it can't do sync sounds like that, unless it's playing a sample or acting as a controller for something else. That said, yes, a JP-8 can do that sound. Any synth with hard sync and routing of an envelope to oscillator pitch can. You need to have an envelope co...

Re: Crockett's Theme - FM8 remix
Do you use FM8's more advanced features (multistage envelopes, filter operators, custom algorithms) in all your patches or do you stay with stuff that could be done on a DX7? I bet you could do wonders with a real FM synth. A DX series, or since you do stuff for TV, do you have access to a Synclavie...

Re: Is Enigma's flute on Sadness same as in PG's Sledgehammer?
According to Synthmania it's from the Emulator II. At least the Sledgehammer version was. I don't know about the Enigma one, if it's the same, or a different one (they used it a LOT on their first 3 albums especially).

Re: Roland keyboard
1. Make sure the MIDI OUT on the keyboard is connected to the MIDI IN on the synth. 2. Make sure both units are set to the same MIDI channel. You may have to poke around in the menus to check/set this. 3. Does the MU90R have a volume control? Turn it up. 4. Both Yamaha and Roland have owner's manual...
