It's a nice pad. You call it a string sound but it has some organ-like qualities in it too. Which algorithm did you use? I've been too busy to do much synth programming recently, but the last song I created features a combination of TX802 and D-550 for the main part of the song. One of the best "pat...

Execellent, Martin. You should offer DX programming for hire.

Is there any sound you can't get from a DX7? ;)

P.S. Which algorithm did you use?

I finally had a chance to listen to Io to Callisto.. lovely tune, lovely sounds, from a lovely synth. ;) I like that lead sound, it reminds me a bit of a Vangelis-like patch I use in some of my stuff. I'm curious as to how close I can get to those sounds with my JX-8P. Next time I have some "synth t...

Is this an issue with anyone? That the Jupe-6 only has a mono output? Well, look at it this way, it only eats up one input on your mixer instead of two. ;) If your mixer only has stereo inputs (say, you're using a DJ mixer) just get a splitter cable and run the JP-6 into both the left and right inp...

hmm. i'm hoping it's just a computer related issue? maybe? since, i really want the program to be as badass as it looks! I think the author stopped doing updates to DX Manager. I don't think it was a computer issue in my case, others have reported it freezing too. that thing IS mint! must not have ...

$120 is a good deal, I paid twice that for my 802, but mine was mint w/original box and manuals. I think it's the best of the DX7mkII series. It sounds the same as a DX7II but its performance architecture is a little different, to accommodate multitimberal operation. The DX7II lets you split/layer t...

Another thing is maybe DX7 mkIs are brown because the original paint faded over time?

Does anyone remember then being brown new out of the box in the 80s?

Is dust/lint an issue though?

Electronics and static don't mix too well, it could corrupt or damage the electronics.

Better to use something less staticky but also something that doesn't shed a lot of dust/lint. The Yamaha dust cover I got for my Motif is made out of spandex.

So the DX7 was actually brown? This whole time I thought it was black. I've never seen one in person, but some pics it looks like a dark chocolate brown and in others it looks black. http://www.shorefirerecording.com/images/DX7.JPG http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/images/oreilly/digitalmedia/2006/04...

Another use for sync is if you want to layer two oscillators on an analog synth (say, to combine two waveforms) and you don't want them to be detuned from each other at all. Otherwise, it's like what Big Gnome said, it's used for synth lead sounds (like the Cars' "Let's Go"), or to simulate PWM on s...

Re: Looking for a synth for my rock band - help me decide!

Look around for a used Korg MS2000. It's the same engine as the MicroKorg but with a knobby interface and a full-size keyboard. The MS2000 is to the Microkorg what the Alesis Ion is to the Micron. The MS2000 and Microkorg are capable way beyond what the presets show you, and they're easy to program....

Funny thing is that DX7 looks black - the mkI is usually a distinctive brown colour. Must just be the lighting. I think they converted to greyscale, then inverted, then changed the white balance to lean toward the red (or toward the blue prior to inverting). The image has 64 unique colors/shades, s...

Based on the reversed pic, a DX7 mk1 with a brushed aluminum finish would look SHARP.

Yep, the DX7 Centennial Edition.

But it's a DX7II series, the pic in my first post is a mk1. Looking at the sliders in the original (and my reversed version), I'm almost certain it was photoshopped.
