On further inspection, I think it is a negative image. Here I negatived it again and it looks more normal now:

Silver DX7?

I was surfing the 'net and happened across this image on the Sound On Sound site: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/aug01/images/retrozonecloseup.gif Looks like a silver-colored mk1 DX7 to me... did such a beast ever exist? Or was this a photoshop or custom paint job? I know there was an "anniversary ...

It's a square wave but it's filtered, so play around with the filter settings. Set cutoff to make it smooth and give it a touch of resonance and I bet you'll nail it pretty easily on any of your synths.

EDIT: It could be a triangle wave, or a filtered square wave, try both.

I had mine chained, but I recently got a MIDI Solutions 1->4 thru box and a 4->1 merge box. My Motif XS is my master controller and it also acts as my PC MIDI interface via mLAN (firewire). So, the XS's MIDI Out goes to the thru box and then to the other synths. The merge box merges the MIDI Outs of...

That "organ-like" sound I think is just the phased/filter swept pad you hear later on without the square-wave LFO.

I hear the supersaw too. Every modern rompler has that sound.

Chances are that's what they used, a modern rompler.

i paid a whopping $700 last summer for mine with two broken pots (which i replaced for about $5), a solid investment. That's what I'm waiting for, a cheap fixer-upper. Something where I can either snag it cheap or come out ahead if I sell it afterward. But then, if I get my paws on anything "Jupite...

Hey Don, good to see you here! (I'm kpatz over there, as Synthaholic wasn't available as a username). I hear you snagged that OB-1 and Pro-One from the same seller. I was trying to get one of them but I guess you beat me to the punch. I may end up with a Jup-6, or one of the aforementioned mono synt...

definitely an OB-8, telltale sign is that the rear Oberheim logo is on the very left followed by the barely-legible OB-8 outline at 1:01. on the OB-Xa, the outline and logo are in switched positions. Thanks for the insight, I've always had trouble distinguishing OB-8 from Xa in less than optimal vi...

Main synth is an Oberheim, either OB-8 or maybe OB-Xa.

The other stack, top to bottom, appears to be a JP-6, DX7, and an Emulator II.

Can't tell what the keytar is but maybe a Yamaha KX5? It's pretty rectangular looking.

Some noise is normal when the chorus is on.

There's a calibration procedure in the service manual (for the 106 at least, I think the 6/60 uses the same chorus circuit) for adjusting the chorus, which may reduce the noise some, but it will always be there.

For those who think the D-50 can only do shimmery new agey type pad stuff, listen to Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn". Guess what synth that is. Hint #1, it's not analog. Hint #2, I'm posting in this thread. ;)

It's definitely a D-50 in the video - you can see the 'D-50' logo at 1:44, as the camera pans away. The cartridge slot on left side (viewer's right) is a further clue. Yeah, that's how I figured it out too. It took a while though, since the logo is hard to read, and part of the panel is obscured (H...

Help me ID this synth (Poison video)

I'm trying to figure out what synth was used in Every Rose Has It's Thorn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu2DA4I4TGw It looks like it might be a D-50, but I can't tell for certain--I think he has something on top of it. Anyone know for sure? I love the patch he used. It can be seen around 1:36 and ...
