I think a lot of "underrated" synths are just hiding in the shadows of their more famous cousins. For example, the aforementioned Jupiter-4 tends to be overlooked in favor of the Jup-8. The JX series tend to be underrated as well. Junos are more popular/famous, even though the JX series are technica...

Oberheim OB-1 vs. SCI Pro-One?
Assuming you can grab one of these synths for the same money, which would you get and why? Pro-Ones seem more common, and have some flexible mod routing and two envelopes and sequencer. I don't know much about the OB-1 other than what I've read on VSE (two VCOs, 2/4 pole VCF, flexible LFO, one ADSR)...

Nice Juno vs. Polysix demo Jambo. My guess is the first part is Juno and second is Polysix. The envelopes seemed to have a smoother ramp on the 2nd part, and it sounded a little brighter/brassier. Makes me miss mine. Which Juno was used? 6, 60, or 106? Moving on to the JX-3P...in my personal opinion...

Try holding down "A" while turning it on: "Test Mode #1: Skip Voice Board diagnostics, reset Master Tune and Controller settings." Then go into Master Tune and MIDI/controller settings and make sure they look ok/reset them manually. Last but not least, load a SysEx dump into the synth so the memory ...

There is no point suggesting all sorts of "improvements", it won't be a D-50 emulation if they incorporate usermade waveforms and samples, more LFOs, more EG's, sequencers, modular patchpoints, a dozen more oscillators and filter types. Then it'll just be yet another softsynth. True, but if it reta...

I like that Odycake. Gives a new definition to "fat synth" :D More info on my song is in this thread. . But in short, the noise effect is from the Motif and the "falling star" was from my TX802. Both sounds I programmed myself. Maybe put the JX10 on the bottom tier of the stand, especially since it ...

My last creation Kristen's Song has a JX-8P pad in it. The bass that starts in at 0:32 and the chords at 1:03 gives a good idea of some of the JX's pad capability.

Polysixes are quite reliable as far as tuning stability goes, the trouble spot in them is battery leakage, especially now that they're pushing 25+ years in age. If you get a Polysix and get the battery out of there (there's a modification that can be made to use a lithium coin cell), and fix any dam...

I wouldn't exactly consider a JX8P/JX10 to be a non-versatile synth, or even less versatile than the others mentioned. It's got oscillator cross-mod which the Juno and Polysix both lack... Yes, there are several things the JX can do with its two-DCO architecture that a Juno can't, obviously... but ...

For higher numbers just add 1 for each month past 12/83, so if your serial # starts with 43 it was made in June 1984. (43 - 37 = 6). So the Juno I'm fixing up right now (S/N 437180) was made in 6/84. The one I sold in January (475055) would have been made in October 1984. I guess that blows the theo...
