2. Later production. These have a different part # from the early production. They have the 3-pin connector, and the two rows of header pins at the lower left.... They have the ROM at the upper right. Possibly there were not very many of these. I picked up a pair of 106s on eBay recently. One of th...

Did she know that you are a Synthaholic? :) I hope so... I owned two synths when I met her and bought a Polysix shortly afterward. I think her issue is space. There isn't much room in the room for a pile of synths. That and she doesn't like me spending money on toys. Here's some new pics of the pro...

I agree - with all the features they crammed into FM8 they forgot one thing... an easy way for those familar with DX programming to do the same thing in FM8. The parameters are in different places, have different names, and different values. Want DX algorithm 7? You can't just hit algorithm 7 in a d...

AFAIK all 106's were made with blue patch and bank buttons. I think the buttons that look green are just faded. I've heard that some of them did that. Interesting. The white buttons are yellowish on that 106 as well. The orange buttons look fine though. I wonder if anyone ever sells just the button...

So, the MonoPoly is polyphonic and is out of the running as a duophonic synth. Would that be a quadraphonic synth? Me too, I consider any synth that lets you play a max of two notes at once to be duophonic. Regardless if it's paraphonic (sharing a filter) or not. How about two Minimoogs side ...

A Tale of Two Junos
The UPS guy dropped off these yesterday. This one is nearly perfect. I'll give it a good going over, check the battery, clean anything that's dirty, and either keep it (if I can convince my wife to let me) or sell it. Actually, the TX802 is up to 8 part multi-timberal (not 2 like the DX7II). It's basically 8 separate 2-voice DX engines in one box (This is where the "802" comes from), and they can be chained together to increase polyphony with fewer parts. So, you could have 8 2-voice parts, 4 4-voice parts, 1 16-...

With a numeric keypad it should be quick enough even without the data slider :) Looks very tempting... I have an '802 and the keypad does make entry swift. Punch in 2 digits and hit Enter, done. ;) All things considered, the interface isn't THAT bad. Sure, to someone used to programming a Prophet 5...

What worries me, the TX802 has no data input slider. Is there any way to assign the DX7's slider (or any other MIDI controller) to change parametres on the TX802 module? Program your sound on the DX7 and then sysex it over to the TX. Also, I think the DX's UI can program a TX directly but I'm not 1...

I don't think the Korg Polysix has a noise generator. Correct, there's no noise generator on the P6. Another way to determine if it's the VCO, or VCF/VCA: crank the resonance all the way up to self-oscillation, set the oscillator to pulse and crank the pulse width control all the way up to kill the...

"digital subtractive" would be more accurate in my books. But that term would include romplers/sample-based synths with filters. And to whomever said ICs in the signal path make the synth a VA, there are real analog ICs and there are digital ICs. Most, almost all in fact, real analog synths have (a...

The main board has small LEDs on it that indicate which voices are active, so you can determine which voice is dead by watching the LEDs while playing. IIRC the voice and filter chips on the Polysix are socketed. If you switch the chips between the dead voice and a working voice, you can determine i...
