Re: why are VA's called VA's?

i mean, they were called synths when they were analog, but, a watch is still a watch, not a virtual analog watch. When synths were analog, that's all they were (digital synths didn't exist or were rare/expensive back then), and they were pretty much all subtractive synths. So they just called them ...

It was all pushbutton programming but you could add a VT100 "green-screen" terminal to it if you really wanted to get in-depth with the programming. The synth with the screen you are thinking of was probably the Fairlight. Everything you ever wanted to know about the Synclavier but were afraid to as...

The Sync has 4-operator FM, and later models have sampling capability as well. The units with sampling can use samples as FM operators as well, AFAIK.

Nice clip. I love the sound of well-programmed FM patches.

The DX7 can do a lot of the same things. Is the pitch-bent stuff portamento or pitch bender?

Octave is a 3-position rotary switch on the Polysix, not a pot. But the suggestion remains, check the connections on the switch. A broken solder joint or dirty/faulty switch could make it not work.

I tried using a trial version of DX Manager and it worked well for loading/saving dumps but the editor was prone to freezing or crashing. Anyone successfully using the DX Manager editor? Any tips/tricks?

I created a couple sounds on my TX802 today. They're not the greatest but I can work on them further as time permits. First, I tried creating a "mono synth" sort of patch, consisting of 2 "squares" and a "pulse" with some detuning. Not quite the same as a Minimoog though. TX Mini Next, I tried some ...

I think this forum needs a sticky "DX7 Programming Tips" thread. A place to post tips and tricks one has come across while programming this beast. It would be a great resource for all of us FM-heads. ;) If my wife lets me, I'm going to try and spend some, *ahem* quality time with my TX802 today. If ...

I've made a quick vid http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=R-hML-I5RV0 Great video! (I've only watched the beginning so far). I think that's the first time I've ever seen portamento used on a DX7. And you used it to great effect. I might have to get that book. I know my way around the TX802 but I'm far fr...

Programming a DX7 is easy. But programming good and unique sounds, is a lot harder.

That last pic is testing equipment for cellular gear (cell phones/towers, etc.) Chances are it won't interface with your synths. ;)

You aren't listening hard enough. If you listen carefully you'll hear the sound of a mouse being clicked.

I wish I had a knobby synth...
