Re: the time of your synth sessions

I generally don't play that much. I usually spend much more time enhancing my compositions.

Re: The New Tom Oberheim SEM Thread

I got an e-mail from Audiomidi; they have about 8 MIDI SEMs available right now for sale, in case you are interested. I've ordered one. I think they don't have a stock of the patch pannel version though.

Re: 909, 808, 303 - Worth it?

Some people play clarinet, French horn, or oboe, and for years, they will stick to that one tone and create music out of it. Like them, you can decide to be [for instance] a 303 player and stick to that instrument. There is nothing wrong with it, if the instrument really inspire your pure creativity...

Re: What's your "must have" synth?

Hi and welcome aboard. Unless you are working in a very narrow musical style (or enjoy working with workstations), I don't think there is such thing as a complete synth. But my minimal setup would include the Korg Z1, a nanopiano and an analog monosynth.

Re: Reigniting synth passion?

Interesting thread. The worst thing for me is when I keep on playing the same types of melodies. Makes me feel sick. Lilypond - good advice. I've been thinking about composing with scores for months! But that doesn't mean you cannot add oddities over it. I've been delaying my spatula-playing recordi...

Re: Reigniting synth passion?

I guess most of are going through phases and it's a good sign; you probably are not stubborn in an artistic way. I stopped using analog synths to compose a few years ago because it was getting harder and harder to make fresh new sounds with synths as it used to be in the mid-90's. However, my musica...

Re: Swap SH-101 for SH-2 ??

Thanks a lot for the elaborate answer. I am also amazed by the thundering non-resonnant sh-2 bass, but the other sounds did not impressed me as much. And the 101 can also sound quite thundering too in some cases. Seems like we're on the same wavelenght about synths! Maybe you're helping me to avoid ...

Re: Poll: What's your favorite 2-pole, -12db/oct. filter?

But my very favorite filter has to be the Commodore 64 Cynthcart. I really don't know if it's 2 or 4 poles, but it sounds as gritty and alive as it can be. Warmer than analogue! No kidding. I think it's a dual (lp/hp) filter with one huge controller. It's is an analog filter AFAIK. I've always want...

Swap SH-101 for SH-2 ??

I really like my SH-101, but I'm also tempted by the SH-2. I don't think I would like to have both as I prefer to keep a minimal setup. Overall, the SH2 seems to be a complete synth with more flexibility (esp. in the osclillator section) and a nice bassy sound. I will tell you what I like about the ...

Re: Poll: What's your favorite 2-pole, -12db/oct. filter?

The list is all analog. To be honest, while I love a couple of analog 2-pole lowpasses, I also love a couple of digital 2-pole lowpasses too. I know, pure heresy. I'll set up my stake while you fetch some matches. cheers, Ian Great to see you back Aeon! :) I really like the Microwave XT's digital f...

Re: korg monotron vs MS-20

True. From tnhe list below, only the Odyssey could possibly be reissued. Maybe the Pro-One too, but the Mopho is already supposed to be the updated version of this synth.

But I still think there will be a Monotron II.

Re: korg monotron vs MS-20

Just my humble opinion, but I think Korg is testing the market and they might come with more analog goodies in the future. Usually, when they come with a good idea, they eventually push it further - f.e. think of the Kaoss, the Kaossilator, the Electribes....

Is it the same as the Minikorg 700s ?? If so, it sounds swell. Might be the best filter for lead, but not for deep bass.
