Re: Recent popularity of TR-707?

I don't get it. I would not even trade my 50$ Casio RZ1 for one [for musical reasons, indeed].

Re: The New Tom Oberheim SEM Thread

I've asked them twice to buy a patch pannel version. No reply (!!!).

Re: How often have you accidentally erased a "good" program

I guess that it happens from times to times to everybody. With a Z1 and a XT, you have to be careful. I had a friend who was composing Eno-like ambient with a Kawai synth. About 15 years ago, his brother erased all his patches at once by mistake (probably a factory reset). He told me that he felt li...

Re: Help with synth spotting (Gus Gus)

Quote from the sleeve of their album Polydistortion: "Thanks God for Kenton electronics."

With a Kenton MIDI to CV/gate convertor, you can go super low with some synths such as the Rolands SH's.

Re: Cheapest Drum Machine w/Individual Outs?

Casio RZ-1. Good lo-fi sound. And you can sample up to 4 sounds with it. Super easy to program. That's the drum machine I used the most (w. processing to make it sound gritty as possible). You should find one below 150$. I think I got mine for 80-100$.

Re: The Beatles: In My Life Harpsichord?

Maybe out of topic, but on the Crumar Multiman, the harpsichord preset really sounds like that melody in the beginning of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds [in case you like that other harpsichord-like sound too]. ;)

Re: Help with synth spotting (Gus Gus)

[...] Don't take it bad AG. I am aware of your videos and I have a lot respect for your synth knowledge, your discerning ear and your infectious passion. But I have even more respect for those human who have created wonderful music out of these machines - like that guy from GusGus. Personally, I do...

Re: Help with synth spotting (Gus Gus)

The next video demo I release will be about the Jen SX-1000. While it is fun and cheap, this person is an idiot. [...] Putting this on par with a Minimoog is like putting a Yugo on par with a Mustang. Now that's s synth elitist statement! I have never tried a Jen synth but I would certainly not con...

Re: Poll: Who's the best synth manufacturer.

I would not choose a company that produced one or two very great synths in a single category (like ARP or Moog) or a company that went downhill like Roland, even if they produced a lot of great models over the years. For consistency, I would choose Korg. Maybe they did not came with the very best sy...

Re: Help with synth spotting (Gus Gus)

Their first album was like a varied demo and it was really cool to listen. I saw them live at the Sonar in Montréal a few years ago, when drum & bass was always playing before hip shows (I think I miss those times). They were in tour for their 2nd album. The sound system was incredible, the music wa...

Re: What is the purpose of "Recapping" a synth??

QUESTION ABOUT RECAPPING: I have a mint SH-101. It sounds good and doesn't have noisy sliders. Do you think I should change its condensors, considering it age?

Re: Basic Channel Synths/Gear

Yes, the RE-201 also has a spring reverb. Maybe the polyphonic synth could be a Prophet 600... just a guess.
You could also try out a Korg Z1 for those sounds.
