Just came cross this over at SP-Forums: a guy named Korakios has apparently succeeded in making a SP606 driver for Windows 7 & 8. Both audio an midi is supposed to work. I think your best bet for the broadest possible pallette in a hardware synth, would be Korg Kronos.
