Ok! I always wondered why they used compression.
What is your take on the effects?

Re: Roland SP-606 questions
Thanks for the feedback, meatballfulton. How do you feel about the sound quality in regard to the data compression? I'm a bit worried of quality loss when sampling back and forth the computer. I mean, it does have digital i/o, but the sound is still compressed after each passing into the unit? Thank...

Roland SP-606 questions
I'm considering picking up one of these, but am a bit hesitant. What can you tell me about it? From what I understand it is not possible to resample sequences, also, effect settings are not retained within a project. Here are some of my questions: 1. Resampling of sequences is not possible - is it p...

Re: synth for trance music
Native Instruments Reaktor has many, many, many synths in the download section on their homopage that are very well suited for trance. Some of the developers make fantastic synths.

Re: looking 4 sample source- prodigy firestarter 'hey'
Thanks for the info, fletriste. Yeah, I remember the Skywalker sample being 'tampered' with, something I found a bit annoying - so I guess I still prefer the single version :) I guess the reason for Art Of Noise only suing when Firestarter came out, is that the sample in that tune is so prominent. A...

Re: looking 4 sample source- prodigy firestarter 'hey'
fletriste; they actually used it on 'Full Throttle' also? Been a while since I listened to that tune, is it on the album or single version (seem to remember there were some differences there...(?).

Re: Yamaha RM1x or similar to control soft synths?
Moody; I think you might be dissapointed in the RM1x's sounds; they're not that great. It is indeed possible to crank out some cool stuff, but I would look elsewhere. Can you afford the RS7000? It is basically the same as the RM1x, but with a better sound quality + sampling (and some neat functions ...

Re: RM1x alternative for live performance?
Yes, RS7000 is king. I've been using mine extensively lately and it just rules. Oh, I actually had one of the first rm1x units with the faulty OS. Very annoying, but the shop were I bought it had the chip replaced. But the RS7000 is miles ahead of the rm1x, as the sound actually is useable as oppose...

Re: Native Instruments Maschine
Yeah, the SP-606 seems decent, but a little to limited. I already have an RS7000, but am hoping for an upgrade of some sort.23 wrote:Just thought I'd note, based on this question, you may want to check out the Roland SP-606.

Re: A3000 prices.
Not sure, but it shouldn't be too much. I have one, but don't use it very often, due to the noise from the fan. With an internal harddrive, you should expect quite a bit of noise from that too. If I were to buy one now, it would be the A4000. The thing is I know the fan in the A4000 can be unplugged...

Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me. I was getting confused here and hoping so much that standalone operation was in fact an option. Oh well.JSRockit wrote:No. You need to use a computer to host the software.

Re: Beginner's Synth?
You definately need knobs - the more the merrier - if you want to learn synth programming. I would also recommend getting a polyphonic one. If you find an Access Virus for a decent price, I'd say it would make for a brilliant first synth.

Re: Native Instruments Maschine
Sorry for my confusion, but is it actually possible to use Maschine stand alone, that is not connected to a computer? Can I hook it up to other hardwares and integrate it into my setup just like any other synth?

Re: V Synth questions.
@ 23: Isn't it possible to build a patch, let's say piano, by entering drum kit mode (or whatever it's called), thereby building a patch using several samples? I have a V-Synth myself, but haven't looked into this possibility. btw: to me it seems the *only* reason not to get a GT, is the price diffe...
