Re: Is there a synth for me out there?

The Prophet 600 has a good vintage sound. Six voices and two VCO's per voice often selling for $1000 or less.

Re: Monos

The Pro-One is a great-sounding, very full-featured mono. There are a couple of minor points to beware of which may or may not be an issue for you. The Pro-One has no Sample/Hold and the sequencer rate is controlled by the LFO speed control limiting your modulation capability when running a sequence...

Re: 8+ Voice, Dual VCO/DCO, and Layering Capabilities

CS70M. 6-voice. Can be configured as a standard dual VCO 6-voice or as two separate single VCO 6-voice PolySynths. In the latter configuration two different sounds can be layered but with only one VCO in each layer. Can do 2-4 or 4-2 split with single VCO layering possible on each side. Aftertouch. ...

Re: 8+ Voice, Dual VCO/DCO, and Layering Capabilities

Here are the at least 8 voice dual VCO Synths I know about off the top of my head: OB8 - 8 voices. Layer and split. Many uncommon LFO triggering options. OB-Xa - available with 4, 6, or, 8 voices. Layer and split. OBX - available with up to 8 voices. No layer or split. Matrix 12 - 12 voices. Up to 6...

Re: What a great list of gear

Sorry, didn't know you were so young. Most of those artists I mentioned go back to the late 70's or early 80's in case you are not familiar with some of them. Things were a bit different back then especially before MIDI and multi-timbral instruments. As each instrument could only make one sound at a...

Re: What a great list of gear

That's a well balanced setup. But I could never imagine having more than a few synths at a time simply because I can't use that many instruments regularly. It's more about the music you make with musical instruments and how they can be of use to you, rather than having a big room full of synths you...

Re: What am I missing?

Purely from a sound quality viewpoint these would make excellent additions to your current collection: The Yamaha CS80 is the all-time best-sounding Analog PolySynth that has a somewhat reasonable chance of being obtained. In the Oberheim category, aside from the original SEM Four and Eight-Voice, t...

Re: What's the best way to clean the outside of a synth?

Depends on how dirty it is. If it just needs some polishing up go over it with a soft damp cloth and some dish soap. Follow that with some glass cleaner and it should really shine. A toothbrush or other soft brush can get into those tight spots where dust gathers. I have a Juno 60 that was covered w...
