Re: Poll: your musical influence for interest in synthesizers
I first heard about synths from reading an interview with Roger McGuinn of The Byrds in the 60's. Back then Moogs were being used for sound effects and processing vocals. The Byrds, The Doors, Moody Blues, and The Monkees all used the Moog for effects. The first recording I heard using it as a music...

Re: Cheap Lead Synth/Controller?
The Casio WK-3700 may do what you need. 76-note synth-action velocity keyboard. MIDI in/out. Very good piano, electric pianos, harpsichord, clavinet, etc. plus drawbar organ and synth sections. Pitchbend and Mod wheels. 32-note polyphony. Key split and layer capability. You should be able to get a u...

Re: Oberheim OB-8 VS Roland Jupiter 6
I used my Jupiter 6 and OB8 together on stage for several years. There really is not much overlap in their sound characteristics. The OB8 is fatter and darker sounding. The Jupiter is not so fat, but brighter sounding. The Jupiter has a more elegant panel layout and it's overall programming capabili...

Re: Which Synth had the best Chorus?
The original Poly 800 benefited greatly from it's built-in chorus. Most DCO synths have chorus as there is little motion to the sound without it. Besides the CS80 the CS70M is another example of a VCO synth with chorus. As choruses in general go, Roland made about the best there was in the late 70's...

Jupiter 6 which I bought new in 1982. Has never been in the shop for anything other than battery replacement and still works great.

Re: What is the Oldest Piece of Gear in Your Studio?
Oldest keyboard instrument is a 1962 Hammond C3. Oldest synth might be MS20, Pro-One, or CS70M.

The LP shape is almost as bad as the Korg MS20.

Re: Trade my Jupiter 6 for a Prophet 08?
The Jupiter 6 doesn't do everything and it's not fat sounding, but it can make sounds that are beyond the capabilities of much more expensive analogs. The closest you can come to replacing it is an MKS80. Definitely hang on to your Jupiter 6. Use it in combination with other synths when you need add...

Re: Pro Soloist heat problem
I've never known freeze spray to leave a residue. It's mostly Freon gas. I would first start by spraying IC's or transistors in areas that are likely to be a probable cause of this problem. If the bad component becomes obvious you replace it. Freeze sprays are often used for troubleshooting thermall...

Re: Pro Soloist heat problem
Since the problem seems to be temperature-sensitive you might try using freeze spray. When the unit goes into failure try spraying individual components and see if it starts working properly again.

Can't see the synths very well, but the organ looks like a Hammond M-3.
