Re: So I bought a Jupiter 8 earlier this year....

Oh yeah, one more thing: If you get a Boss/Roland chorus made around the early to mid 80's, you can emulate alot of Juno 60 sounds on a JP8, except for anything where the Juno's filter self-oscillates.
Here's a Juno-like string/pad done with the JP8 running through a Boss CE-300 chorus.

Re: So I bought a Jupiter 8 earlier this year....

Yeah, it's either broked, or LFO Mod slider should be fully down. The two envelope sections are easiest to remember if you look at the entire panel left to right and typically follow one simple rule: Always set VCF envelope switch to Env-1. This way, left to right it's controlled as VCF by Env-1, an...

Re: Acid test for distortion pedals

I saw this a while back and the only ones I could make out a significant difference were the ones that had the snappiest envelopes. ie. the ones which saturated a smaller percentage of time than the rest. Also, the pedals with EQ/Tone controls.

Re: EMS Synthi A - Worth it or invest in something more modern?

This is a question that might be worth posting at the analogue heaven mailing list. All I know about the old EMS gear is that even though they are far from a one-trick pony, and they do sound great, they aren't the most reliable things. Based on that, I'd give the standard answer of 'Unless you abso...

Re: Voyager old school compared to Minimoog?

Assuming the OS and digitally controlled Voyagers have no discernable sonic differences, I think the main differences between the D and Voyagers are how much cleaner and stable the Voyager sounds, and less emphasis in the Voyager's highs(think screaming leads). The latter can be resolved to a point ...

Re: Your first recording Sessions with Synths . . .

I did the walkman/home deck thing too, but mixed with a Gemini DJ mixer. Then decided I was a terrible keyboard player and dreaded the thought of multiple takes, so soon moved to Midi recording on an Atari ST.

Re: Any of you use ADAT?

I have a blackface ADAT that has long since been unreliable. All of the outputs, digital and analog, make this screechy crackling noise in regularly repeating bursts. (around 300 bpm) If I whack the top of the case, it stops doing it for about 15 minutes. But yeah, I've gotten it to interface with m...

Re: favorite filters

I owned the FC for a while, I found it pretty boring to be honest, when compared with the Filterbank. You know, the problem I have with the Sherman Filterbank is it's too damn easy to distort into oblivion. I'm more of a subtle warmth kind of overdrive person. I know it can do that too, as I've hea...

Re: favorite filters

How is the Electrix stuff? I have always been curious, but never tried them out. Electrix Filter Queen is particularly uninspiring. You can get good sounds from the Electrix by combining it with something that already has decent filter character. For instance, here is the Moog Voyager through the F...

Re: Moog Little Phatty dissapointment and My new Moog

Now if I put a signal booster in the loop, then I get a bit of filter overdrive, but I also get VCA bleedthrough. Yeah, this is the case - and I've tried it with every single pedal / compressor / preamp I own (I have about 18 different distortion devices). If you overdrive the filter on the Voyager...

Re: Moog Little Phatty dissapointment and My new Moog

Connect the left (mono) out to your mixer and go from the Right Out to the audio In input ,set the externa signal input in the Voyage mixer to about 8 or 8,5 and switch the input on. I've tried both left-out to in and right-out to in with an unbalanced cable. The latter just seems to give me more r...

Re: Moog Little Phatty dissapointment and My new Moog

Btw i just tried that overdrive by passing the output to the input and the sound is monstrous :D I can't get my Voyager to overdrive when I do this, no matter what I do. Of course, I haven't tried it from the headphone out or using a Y cable at the output. How did you set this up? ...would t...

Re: Delay pedal for synths??? Moog? Memory Lane? etc...

The feedback loop and CV inputs are really tempting. Regarding feedback loops, if you have a mixer with at least one send channel and one channel strip that includes an Insert line, if you have the Send channel connected to the delay's input and the Channel strip connected to the delay's output, th...
