Re: Do any analog synths < $1000 have a HPF with Resonance?
Sort of, because you need a kit to Midi it, but the Minikorg 700S has both highpass and lowpass resonant filters. Also sort of, because resonance isn't really tweakable unless you open the unit and adjust little trimpots. Instead, it has a switch that engages more resonance, and the trimpots control...

Re: Do you have patches that you use over and over?
When I've created something on the ProOne that I'm keen on, I write the patch down so I can re-reuse it later if I want. This is what a digital camera is useful for! :D You might get funny looks if someone sees your memory card contents and finds 30 pictures of the same synth, but otherwise, it's q...

Re: TB-303: DIN Sync and battery contacts
TB-303 has problems keeping the sync cable in its DIN Jack. According to Robin Whittle's site (see "Loose and intermittent sockets") the sync socket can come loose from repetitive stress. It probably just needs to be resoldered more tightly to the circuit board surface. whenever the TB is moved aro...

Re: When will the madness stop
i really don't like the idea of the 303 clones because they dont seem to be expanding on the 303 idea as much as say the minimoog or other vintage synth clones... I thought the point was that this is a startup company, and so they start with something cheap and simple that they can turn a profit on...

Re: When will the madness stop
...it sounds more 101/202-ish than 303 Seeing as there's an increasing demand in 101's these days, that can't be bad either. When it comes to filter character, I'll take a squelchy OTA over a diode-ladder with spotty parts tolerances any day. As to the continuing demand of a keyboardless synth that...

Re: Damn TB-303
Seconded on replacement being recommended. I replaced all 24 of them myself, using the same part # from mouser.com, in about an hour and I'm kind of slow at soldering. The plastic caps tend to break the switches anyway when you pull them off.

Re: A couple of DIN sync questions (MC-202, TB-303, TR-606)
Not 100% sure, but I think the tb-303 doesn't have a clock in, only out The 303 has both, but the external clock switch(Din Sync from external) is mounted around the exterior of the lower half of the DIN jack,(and hidden under the case so you only see it when the PCB is exposed) which closes when y...

Re: Upgrade from a MOTU Ultralite to a RME Fireface 400?
Someone said switching from MOTU to Apogee is like taking the cotton out of your ears. I have to agree. I think they are talking about the pre-amps, which indeed lack oomph on the MOTU 828 mkII. I went with the Apogee Duet... it kills the MOTU. I did an A/B test with my Jupiter 8 of a bright pad go...

Re: A couple of DIN sync questions (MC-202, TB-303, TR-606)
Can I use a 3way split DIN cable to sync all three devices simultaneously? Indeed you can. I built one myself. You can see it in this photo in the upper right corner. It's just your basic signal split for the three pins on the input jack to the corresponding pins on the output jacks. Of course the ...

Re: Do you have patches that you use over and over?
I don't usually use presets for anything other than starting points. Lately I've taken this one Moog Voyager patch I made in a number of interesting directions. This, this and this all are derived from that preset. Basically all the Virus presets are ripe for tweaking. I have to show some restraint ...

Re: Crackling sound from my SH-101 keyboard
What I've seen more frequently with this is the vibration caused by pushing keys, swithces or sliders causes a temporary short made between two contacts that are too close together. I would first reseat the two keyboard terminals(one big, one small) attaching it to the main board. If that doesn't do...

Re: sh101 issues
It's probably best not to engage the power switch again. Sounds there is a direct short from 9v to ground very near the battery terminal or one of the power supply components has failed. In the schematic for the main board power from the battery and adapter jack comes in at lower left, terminal 103,...

Re: Syncing tr-808 to pro-one
Please post back if it works. A few years ago, I tried to sequence my Pro~One with my TB303, and the gate would not work. I ended up making a special adapter for the Pro~One's gate input that basically ground-lifted the signal.(10kohm resistor from the signal line to the ground line of the jack) I m...
