Re: Andromeda buyer tips
Sometimes the stress and excessive cost can be worth it. It's naturally a personal choice. I made a few attempts to justify pulling the trigger on what the A6's are worth now and by my own judgement, cannot. No more than a personal call, and I'm grateful for the advice given in this thread. It's iro...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips
In typical sniper capitalist pig fashion, the price jumped up by one $50 bid from $3350 in literally the last 2 seconds. Ugh. Die. Huh? that's how pretty much all big ticket ebay items end... And you clearly weren't prepared to pay anything near that anyway. I agree they are pricey, but why would y...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips
Still have a Virus b, albeit with broken Edit and Ctrl functionality. I spent less than an hour playing presets, so I understand they aren't the best representation of the Andy's potential. And even the presets are less abrasive, more dynamic, have more flexibility and have greater clarity in the hi...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips
Thanks all for your responses. I did take some time to read the tips at wohmart, and recall seeing some of the ones mentioned here. Still undecided on whether to get one, but here is some excerpts of me having fun playing the User Presets on Z's A6: http://108.163.194.218/~murmurbe/music/demos/A6-Us...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips
Yes, I left a comment on the post following them. Lots of good ways to use the polyphony. The CS80 one was particularly nice.

Re: To B or not to B? that is the Virus....
So I have read Virus B sounds warmmer and fuller then A and C. Some even said a bit better then TI. Your thoughts? Thanks for any help. I did see the TI and B post here that did help. Hope it's ok to reflect on this? If not, feel free to let me know. Will check it just to be safe. You can PM me wit...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips
I would inquire on the red A6 if there wasn't a "no returns" policy attached. I consider that too much of a risk. I did play the Solaris at the meet and decided it wasn't for me. My interest in the A6 initially was partially to attempt to get more synth for less coin. Hence my bitching and moaning w...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips
Ok thanks. Bog standard will probably work for me, but I have not read what makes the red labeled A6's distinct.

Re: Andromeda buyer tips
I guess I didn't get the original intent of the post... I assumed perhaps incorrectly that you wanted buying advice for an upcoming purchase of an A6... I would like to know what to consider(outside of price, sorry about the ranting) when looking to buy one. There have been some good suggestions th...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips
Thanks shaft, the GAS effect is nothing but torture and any well-informed encouragement is a welcome offer. Synths have never been more than a hobby for me, and I am not the reckless single male I was 5 years ago, so obligations likely will not permit such frivolous spending. On a more practical not...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips
and $3K for 16-voices of VCO analog .... in 1980s dollars that's soooo freaking cheap - JP-8s and P5s cost far more than double that for half the voices (and typically way more miles on 'em), barely-to-zero multitimbrality and no individual outputs for voices.... or even MIDI on most of them, fer c...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips
Yes I know that sound you're referring to. My JP8 I used to own did it too. I like it.
There's some weird oscillation with PWM active on the upper keys that I can't figure out how to get rid of though. It's quite annoying.

once you spend time with it and get over the learning curve - you will change your mind completely on both points. I'd bet you on it It's less regarding the accepted market value and more about I have bills to pay and could never justify enough time invested in it to live up to that price paid. I a...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips
I've had a virus b and dicked about with a Ti, and i don't feel that they are even comparable - whole different animal to begin with. I did say "Nicer" than a Virus. Once you turn off the effects and tame all the saturation, I agree. Even then, the effort I have to go through to in order to not sou...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips
Those are indeed nice demos that reveal both the character of the A6 and its sonic flaws. After you shave off the excessive 4-6khz, something about the top end is still a bit pristine, to me. None of that lovely creamy lower midrange like in vintage, either. My own quick test of some pad sounds with...
