Re: Andromeda buyer tips

...it looked great but for me it sounded dull, only my view try to hold on and buy a Memorymoog from someone up to their eyeballs in debt and a chance to get a MM for your budget. Praying for acid rain. I wouldn't even know where to start looking. Certainly wouldn't be ebay for the price I could af...

Re: Andromeda buyer tips

There is no excuse for the prices they are going for. It shouldn't cost any more than a used Virus TI. It sounds like a Virus TI with a better treble range tone but a somehow less interesting midrange tone. Closer to modern VA or perhaps a less perky Xpander. Its oscillator mix beating phases in the...

Andromeda buyer tips

Being only recently introduced to an A6 up close and personal, it pains me to quickly rush over to evilbay and see these things now moving for the mid $3k range. It's not even vintage, for the love of Pete. :pissed: Besides a price that isn't for retards with fat wallets who just shell out for the p...

Re: Does the Pro One filter self oscillate?

I too had to replace the 3320 in the Pro~One I once owned, in order to get resonance back. The effect of losing high resonance happened over a few days, then was gone, with just a lowering of volume, as you describe. One of the reasons I sold it was because high resonance thins out the oscillator mi...

Re: Most abused synths/tones

Congratulations, you took some piece of working equipment and bludgeoned it with a soldering iron until it makes noises like an Atari 2600 with a dirty cartridge slot. This is a bad thing? Can't be much worse than what I have to listen to at my workstation 3 hours after a second helping of refried ...

Hypersynth Xenophone

Yes yes, just another 3 oscillator monosynth to flood the already saturated market. http://www.hypersynth.com/xenophone.html Looks like it fits somewhere between the Mono-Evolver and the MFB Dominion. All discrete(likely SMT) synthesis signal path is good. I like the extra effects and subs/ringmod p...

Get yourself one of these and four SEM Pro's at second-hand prices and forget about Son of 4 Voice.

Re: Name some underrated/hated synths that you like

Let the record show, I only said the SH-101 was hated. Mister '5 posts and brazenly manifested as the superior linguist' did ask for clarification elsewhere, however. No softsynths getting any love?

Re: Jupiter-8 - how does it stack up against the JXs?

Only played someone else's for a bit, but it struck me as having that harsh, brittle early 80's curtis oscillator top-end, like the JP6, only without the multi-mode filtering. Certainly capable of some nice sounds, and some great bass, but generally too grating for me. Someone with long-term experie...

Re: Jupiter-8 - how does it stack up against the JXs?

I had a JP8 for about 3 years and a JX8P for a short time many years before. The short form is that the JP8 was Roland's breakout product, to prove to professional studios worldwide they had the skills to create a top-of-the-line durable, versatile and well laid-out performance instrument, with no c...

Re: Tangerine Dream, Late 1981.

I've seen the first 3 article pages linked here before. Nice to see the rest, including the Choronzon notes. Exit was significantly better live. Seek out the bootleg track "Föhn" from Rätikon as an example.

Re: MFB Kraftzwerg pulse waveform

He just said you can't fix it because the components are surface mount. Too delicate to modify, most likely. No trimpots to adjust pulsewidth, unfortunately.

Re: negative polar gain

I can appreciate that for quieter parts where the wasted headroom isn't as much of an issue, but if it needs more presence, then I don't mind processing it. I've done it several times so far and have not noticed any degradation. It just allows me to make it louder and it still sounds good to my ears...

Re: negative polar gain

Seeing as that technique is limited to one editor I don't use, I've decided to give the offending sound clips a negative DC offset of 12db, normalize/limit the clip, then noise gate the silence gaps with a 10db threshold and at least a 90ms decay. Also just fyi, I looked at a clip from an actual Min...
