Re: VINYL RECORDS

I started collecting vinyl again about a year ago, and have about 400 now, including 12" singles. I've learned alot about cleaning records, what causes distortion, what kind of stylus to get, how to calibrate the stylus and arm, and how much it sucks to buy vinyl on ebay. It's mostly been a huge exe...

Re: Alpha Juno 1?

Paid $220 for mine plus tax in 1997 at a music shop. Still seems high now. Agreed don't go over $200 max.

Re: Analog Copression for electronic music

I bought a used Bellari RP583 and had it modded by Matrix Audio Systems . I spent about $600 all total(including repair of the meters and one output stage) for something that sounds much more expensive. This would only be for someone who likes optical compressors, but with tube stages to boot. I've ...

Re: Closest DCO synth to Jupiter 8 in a tone perspective

...the jp8000 sounds the closest to a jupiter 8 than anything else out there. Not having a JP8000 to compare it to, the only way I can dispute this is what I've found the JP8 to excel at: natural-sounding and pleasant timbre, especially orchestral type sounds, to be something the first generation V...

Re: Jupiter 6 vs Jupiter 8 Envelopes

Understood. I still found it a hindrance on the JP8 considering I mostly used 3-4 simultaneous dual-mode notes on the same patch for upper and lower, and usually with enough amp release to notice the issue. The JP8 voice stealing can be set to linear increments if you power up holding down 1&3 patch...

Re: Value of Formanta Polivoks

I can't speak for getting one overseas, but I bought mine from a VSE member 3 years ago for $1000, and it included a CV/Gate mod. The filter cutoff pot was in horrible shape and it had a problem with keyboard pitch scaling on oscillator 2 that got worse in duophonic mode. A few months after it arriv...

Re: Synths that you loved before, but have now gone off

Really love the tone of the 700. 700s must be even better. Maybe I'm wrong, but these are sounds that cannot be replicated with modern analogs. Perhaps one of the modular diode ladder VCF's could get close. The thing about the Minikorgs is that the VCO(s) have/has very stable tuning for an early 70...

Re: Jupiter 6 vs Jupiter 8 Envelopes

To the best of my knowledge, all analog envelopes have this so-called re-triggering problem. My experience with the envelopes tells me the JP8 uses a exponential slope on the decay and release, whereas the JP6 is linear. ie. the JP8 will always sound more "snappy". Try to remember though, that the a...

Re: MiniBrute vs CS-10/15

I looked into the CS-20M, but it had no External input. Dunno about the 40, but both of them are significantly larger and heavier, plus I love, love, love the dual filters in the 15. Permanent 92% filter key tracking is tolerable so long as I have another multi-mode VCF mono that can adjust this. I'...

...other effects that might be undesirable depending on the situation, and might not be possible depending what you require from your sound - doesn't the external input over-ride noise, for example? Yup, no noise that way. Only works with HP filter also, as mentioned. Seems to be more ideal for the...

Re: MiniBrute vs CS-10/15

What's all this about the CS-15 filter being unable to self-oscillate? Patch the Headphone Out or Low Out to Audio In, and adjust Ext In. Use Highpass filter at VCF1. Works fine. What annoys me about the CS-15 is you cannot adjust Filter key tracking. That might have been fine if tracking was set at...

Re: Synths that you loved before, but have now gone off

Jupiter 8 - People are going to say f**k on this one, but it had some technical problems, took up too much space and I never could get it to stand out in a mix without hogging too much headroom. Too big, too powerful and you don't want to invest in one just for pads and strings. Minikorg 700S - Real...

Re: What's the must realistic Subtractive/VA VST synth you k

I've not heard Diva yet but if it simulates voice tolerances, I owe it to myself to try it out. Of my own plugs, Sonic Projects OPX Pro II, with a bit of midrange notch EQ, is my pick.

Re: Alpha Juno 1 for Kurzweil k2000r v3?

I say do it. Great sounding VA for its generation, double duty as a sampler although keymaps and drum maps are a bit cumbersome, compatible with Akai, Roland and Ensoniq libraries, plenty of programs to find online, and the latest OS has a decent sequencer. Only complaint I have about mine is the di...

Re: Thoughts on the Alpha Juno?

I've had a Ju-1 for 15 years. Do some searching on the forum if you want my opinions. I once did an A/B comparison between Juno60 and Ju-1. I came to the conclusion that the JU-1 thins out severely in comparison with resonance up, but otherwise they are both great single oscillator polysynths, and I...
