Re: Synth with shift wave modulation
You could do it with a JD-800/990 if you have a sequencer that can send it sysex. I might have to try that...

Re: Noisy chorus on Roland synths
They hiss. It is what it is; the chorus circuit is BBD-based and it's the price to be paid for that wonderful effect. Put a noise gate on the output and no worries.

Re: Ensoniq VFX-SD
The VFX and the VFX-SD both were manufactured with the problem; however, some VFX-SDs were repaired at the factory before being shipped, and some were sent back to the factory for repair. I guess Ensoniq or their service bureau didn't have the ability to draw or manufacture a single board that was l...

Re: why don't synth manufacturers just make the old synth?
please don't forget about all the modular manufacturers out there! Of course Roland seems to be, and rightfully so, the pick of question under this topic. I'd s**t a brick, as would many others, if Roland reissued an exact analog recreation of some of their greatest hits. I won't hold my breath :sa...

syncretism, thanks for the update. Just out of curiousity, I wonder what the VCA is.

JoMox discontinuing the SunSyn
Tying back into the ongoing "why don't they make the old synths again" thread, JoMox is now saying that the SunSyn is about to be discontinued, and apparently the culprit is that some IC that it uses is no longer available. I don't know what's inside a SunSyn so I'm not sure what that would be. But ...

I cut a lot of 4-track cassette tape back in the day. Quite frankly, I don't miss it.

Re: why don't synth manufacturers just make the old synth?
One other thing I want to throw out is that, although the boutique manufacturers are doing great things for us these days, being boutique doesn't inherently mean better, nor does mass production always mean c**p. Don't forget that before there was Yamahakorgland, there was ARPMoogEMS. Back when most...

Re: LinnDrum filth, weird wiring & duct tape anyone?
I vaguely recall there was a mod for the LinnDrum that gave it the ability to access larger ROMs. Those PTP wires may have been put there for additional address lines.

Re: why don't synth manufacturers just make the old synth?
These instruments may sound and look nice but its basically covering the same ground over and over,Whilst i like Analog,I'm more inspired by new ways of making music rather than Rebadging and reissuing cult favourites, things that move my music to newer levels, There's a lot of truth to that too, an...

Re: why don't synth manufacturers just make the old synth?
The parts thing is a much bigger problem than most people realize... it's starting to get in the way of new designs, never mind reproducing old ones. For reasons not quite clear to me, the economics of integrated circuit production have (contrary to most of the rest of the economy) move hugely to fa...

Re: Juno 106S Trouble..
sorry to be like a pestering kid but does it matter if you dont do all of the callibration stuff. i.e oscilloscope stuff. I would at the very least check the power supplies and make sure they are not over the specified voltages. Other than that, there is nothing in the calibration that can hurt the...

Re: Juno 106S Trouble..
Anyways. so if this is that damn ROLAND 80017A chip, any tips for replacing it in a 106S/HS60 which is what i have. IIRC, the 106S uses the same module board as the regular 106, it's just in a different place. It's easy to spot. Allow me to suggest that you read these: * Sequence15 Juno-106 repair ...

Re: Any Waldorf Microwave users here?
From what I've seen, XT's go in the $600-800 (US) range; the others
run $300-500. However, if I were going to get on, the XT is the one
I'd get because it's got a pretty nice user interface. The others
have one-knob interfaces.
