Re: Juno-106 problem
The display you're seeing indicates that the 106 is booting up in test mode. That means it's sensing that the KEY TRANSPOSE button is being held down. First, check to make sure that button isn't stuck. If that's not the case, then the tech may have done some damage to the board that has resulted in ...

Re: JX8P Pitch Bend Detuning Glitch
Hmm... will have to think about this one. After the detune happens, if you send it a Reset All Controllers via MIDI, does it have any effect?

Sagan Technology's Metro is a DAW that runs on Macs and supports both VST and AU plug-ins. I've been using it for a long time.

Re: Why might a JX-8P not respond to midi sysex?
When a Roland synth isn't responding to sysex, in my experience it's usually one of two things: 1. The sender isn't using the correct unit number. I'm not up on the JX8P, but the unit number will be a parameter in the system or MIDI setup somewhere. The number that will actually appear in the MIDI s...

Re: is the Furman power conditioner the issue?
It may be the combination of things. What is the wattage limit on the Furman power conditioner? If you're running it close to its limit, it may be struggling to supply enough current. This can be magnified by the UPS box; some of those things output what the manufacturers call a "modified sine wave"...

Re: Synth Repair Dilemma
So basically the tech has admitted that he can't do anything with it. I don't know specifically what your agreement with him was, but an ethical tech would never take money to "look at" a synth that they don't know how to work on. Maybe you could offer to split the difference with him.

Re: Juno really quiet
If you're saying that the output level switch on the rear panel has no effect, that suggests to me that the problem is not with the 80017A's. It would be very unusual for all six to go out at once. I'm guessing the problem is in the output circuits on the jack board. Does it sound the same through b...

Re: Sight Unseen Horror Stories
Oddly, I've never had a problem with a synth deal, but I got shafted on a scope once. Bid on and won an H-P scope from a dealer whose posted address was about a 45-minute drive from me. The scope looked very clean in the photos, and there were several photos of it displaying various waveforms. The a...

Re: EMS Synthi vs. Ionic Performer
I believe EML contracted their panels out. Possibly Ionic used the same supplier. I've never heard anything about a collaboration between EML and Ionic, and it doesn't sound like something EML would have done.

Re: Roland D-50 Sustain Pedal Jack problem
1) Is this true, that the sustain circuit is normally a closed circuit and requires a pedal that is normally closed? It's true; older Rolands are notorious for this. The jack is a normalling-type jack that is supposed to short itself when nothing is plugged in. If the normalling function of the jac...

Yep, looks like they moved the whole thing to Facebook. And unfortunately, it's all organized by Facebook's damnable Timeline, so finding stuff is hit or miss.

Drum physical modeling
I've long been looking for a way to achieve some of the drum and percussion sounds that I hear in my head. To be a bit more specific, I'm very interested in tuned and semi-tuned drum and percussion sounds -- stuff like cymbals, gongs, tamtams, tympani, xylophone, wood blocks, marimba, roto-toms, met...
