Re: Restarting the Fizmo Project
In my years of consulting for various companies that build hardware devices, I've learned that software is generally treated as an afterthought if the team is composed primary of Electrical Engineers - especially old school guys who still want to do everything in hardware. My dad's an old school EE...

Re: Restarting the Fizmo Project
One thought re: the end product -- the Ctrlr project has really taken off with its latest version: http://ctrlr.org . It now allows for WYSIWYG layout of interface objects, and "no programming" for what those objects send (either CC, NPRN, or SYSEX). Thanks. I'm going to go look at that and I'll re...

Re: Juno-106 chip trouble
The raw waveform still comes out in stereo, though. It doesn't pan left and right as if the chorus was on, its just... really wide stereo. That confuses me to no end. Interesting... I'm trying to figure out how it would do that. Perhaps the subosc isn't shutting all the way off when the control is ...

If you're looking for a VA so glassy it'll cut your earlobes off, try the SH-32.

Re: Restarting the Fizmo Project
By the way, the dump layout absolutely sucks. It's the biggest mess I've ever seen. I'm really getting the impression that the Fizmo was rushed out the door with the software not really finished. It might be a miracle that it works at all.

Re: Restarting the Fizmo Project
Progress! I've worked out the locations of most of the sound and layer parameters in the patch dump. If you'll go to my blog post , there's a link to a spreadsheet in ODS format, which you can open with Open Office. You can download Open Office for free from openoffice.org. So here's the question: w...

Roger O'Donnell did his album "The Truth in Me" entirely with a Voyager.

Re: Yamaha CS 30 smells funny when turned on but still works
The most obvious thing would be something in the power supply. It might be worthwhile to just open the synth up (unplugged!) and sniff around the power supply to see if you can pinpoint the smell.

Your voice 4 problem is almost certainly the 80017A. The 5534's rarely fail.

Re: Old Roland Samplers (S Series, W-30, etc)
There was the S-750 and S-770 which were basically the same box. The 770 had a built-in SCSI drive; the 750 only had an external SCSI port. And I think the 770 had a fan, which the 750 didn't need. Both came with a mouse. There were two cables that would allow you to connect them to an external EGA ...

Re: Which Polys have Bandpass Filtering?
I suspect lots of digital synths have it. The JD-800 and 990 have BP filtering; it doesn't self-oscillate but it does have resonance. In fact, the ability to dial up extreme amounts of resonance without self-oscillating is something I regard as a unique ability of these synths.

Re: Synth sadness: overworked and underplayed.
One thing I do when I'm stuck for ideas for tracks is to work on patches, or patch ideas that I've been wanting to try. Sometimes playing around with a new patch will suggest an idea. But even if it doesn't, you'll have ammunition for later. And I probably wouldn't take gear to work, it can make you...

Re: Synths everyone has used?
Pretty much any keyboard player of my age has at least touched a Minimoog and an Odyssey. Those were the Big Two back in the '70s. I've played both, although I've never owned either.

Re: OBXA Tandulum caps.
Generally, tantalums look like random blobs of plastic, as opposed to the neat cylindrical shape of electrolytics. Here is an example, from Mouser's listings, of what one looks like: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/AVX/TAP105K020SCS/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtZ1n0r9vR22dzXiwOw%252bhWCUGGNjbKaTQc%3d I'm goin...
