Re: Juno 60, and 106 bass

On the 106, when you put the highpass filter in the 0 position, it provides a bass boost. On the 60, highpass position 0 is a pass-through. So yes, the 106 has a bit more bass. The difference is not huge, though.

Re: Roland SH-01 Gaia Jalco Input Jack Replacements? Help

Do make sure you get jacks for PC board mount. The ones with "solder lugs" are for panel mount. That won't work.

Re: Juno 106 Crackling

Yes, pretty much any scope will do, as long as the probes are halfway decent. There's lots of threads here on choosing scopes -- do a search. I actually don't think a sine wave is necessary for the chorus offset procedure; a triangle wave would probably do as well. Just use another synth to generate...

Re: Juno 106 Crackling

I finally got a chance to listen to the audio you posted, and yeah, that definitely sounds like distortion in the chorus. The chorus circuit is on the jack board, which is mounted to the underside of the left end of the panel. You will need something that can supply a sine or triangle wave to feed i...

Re: Juno 106 Crackling

I can't listen to the audio at work, but from the description it sounds like the chorus is being overdriven. That can happen with the 106, and it usually happens when playing chords with patches where higher filter resonsance settings are used. If it's happening even at low levels, the chorus circui...

In my case, the gear was better than I was at the time. In particular, the S-750 was over my head when I first got it. It took me several years to learn that sampler well enough to do much of anything interesting with it.

Re: Juno60vsJupiter8

Take this for what you will, but it always bugged me that the Juno and Jupiter were nearly the same size, yet the Juno is so much more limited. It always bugged me , anyway. Don't know about the earlier Junos, but in the 106, they left room for the power amp and speakers for the 106S/HS-60 configur...

Re: Your Rig---but 20 Years Ago

At the beginning of 1992, I had a Juno-106 and a Yamaha CX5m, plus a JD-800 and S-750 sampler; I'd only had the latter two for a few months. I'd already had to repair the CX5m's power supply once, and it was a few months away from frying for good. The other three synths, I still have. I was sequenci...

Re: An interface with decent inputs

Could it be an impedance matching issue? Maybe the output of the DX7 is a bit weak, and the input of the 0404 loads it down more than the input of the mixer does. Do you know anyone who has a direct box that you could borrow?

Washington -- a Statescape

Here comes another Statescape! My Statescapes are done in the style of Robert Fripp's Soundscapes, with long-period repeating delays. I use synths instead of guitars, and being American, I use names of U.S. states as the arbitrary track names. This one is my first complete track done with the Solari...

Re: Juno60vsJupiter8

Oh, I totally agree with you that a Juno of any vintage is a poor substitute for a Jup8 or 6. And yes, it is a very good filter circuit. I've got several patches where I use it in self-oscillation for toy-piano and chime type sounds.

Re: Juno60vsJupiter8

The Juno-60 is a h**l of a bargain, I've used it a lot and it indeed has the same VCF circuit as the JP-8. If that's true, then so does the Juno 106, apart from the bass boost. Which is easily done with eq. The 106 does not share filter circuit with Juno-60 and JP-8. Yeah it does. For the 106, they...

I think it means they used off-the-shelf 4000-series CMOS. I'll have to look in the Juno-60 schematics.

Re: Changing the type of battery a machine takes?

Are you talking about batteries to actually power the synth, or a memory backup battery? Because for memory backup, you really shouldn't use anything other than lithium types. Too many potential issues with leakage.

Don't know that that would work on many synths. There's usually a line driver amp in there that won't allow the signal to pass back in the other direction.
