Re: How many ARP 2600s were made?
So much gear that we take for granted cost a fortune years back - back in the early 80's the infamous Emulator II sampler cost $8000 - the megalithic Fairlight Series II sampler cost $50,000!! Winding back the sands of time even further a 1939 Novachord cost $1800 - that was half the cost of a hous...

Re: How many ARP 2600s were made?
The stores I worked for stocked and sold everything from MiniKorgs ($499.00 list) to the Oberheim 2-Voice and Polymoog (about $5K ea). We had franchises with everyone and could get anything we wanted, but if someone wanted to order a Moog Modular or a Mellotron, we could certainly get them, but we w...

Re: How many ARP 2600s were made?
Interesting. If someone had asked me to come up with a SWAG estimate of the number made I'd have said around five or six thousand, given that it was a contemporary and competitor of the Minimoog (which sold over 10,000 units). Me too. I sold ARP, Moog, Oberheim, Korg, & Roland in a retail music cha...

How many ARP 2600s were made?
Just a question I've been mulling over for a while... All 2600s, including Blue/Grey Meanies/Moog filter/etc. It would be great if someone had official ARP sales or manufacturing figures. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything in the archives. If something's there, someone please tell me. T...

Re: Synth used by Jan Hammer on "Blue Wind"?
Was he using a Minimoog & an SEM together as one thick monophonic? If so, does that mean the chords in the intro were muti-tracked mono lines? (I guess this is assuming he used the Minimoog/SEM setup on Blue Wind at all.) As far as I know, the only polyphonic synths JH was using at the time were th...

Re: Synth used by Jan Hammer on "Blue Wind"?
Probably the Minimoog/SEM combo he was using at the time. IIRC, the Oberheim had a real nasty sounding PWM. I think JH was also using either Maestro or Tycobrahe phasers and flangers.

Re: Soldering on boards
Find some broken electronics "Radios, outdated computer parts, TV remote- what ever" and Practice- Practice- Practice! Try un-soldering parts, and re-attaching them back to the PCB board. Its best to hone in your skills before trying the Big job at hand. ;) Another suggestion might be to buy some s...

Re: pin of RCA connector broke off into the jack:
If possible, replace the whole jack. They're not that expensive, and chances are, you'll probably bung up one of the contacts trying to fix it anyway.
Buy 2 replacement jacks, preferably not from Radio Shack. That'll save you a possible extra trip.
Hope it works...

Re: cs80 pheremones
My Moog modular has a definite aroma, even when off. I brought it into my garage, took the backs off the cabinets, and ran a box fan for about two days. It cleared up a lot, but you can still smell it, even outside the studio. Years of living in control rooms, I guess. :D This raises another questio...

Re: Todd Rundgren
HoMH is from 1978, so an early Prophet 5 is possible, however unlikely... But just wanted to add, that Todd is the man! (and sounds a lot like Carole King ;) ) - CM Agreed about TR. Having met both (CK in '75, TR in '86), IMO, there's a lot of space between them. However, there's no denying that th...

Re: best mini digital recorder for my needs?
I have 2 Zoom H4 recorders. I paid $230 for one new, and $150 for a barely-used one. The H4 has a killer price/performance ratio. There are a couple of kludgy things (plastic case, somewhat flimsy jog wheel), but overall the thing is amazing. As for the preamps, to my ear they're quieter than my $20...
