Re: Question for other Akai S5000 users

I have now transplanted the partially faulty output board from the old sampler to the new one. Outputs 9+10 (formerly 1+2) don't work but the others do. I am now the proud ownder of a 128-voice, 14-output, 256Mb RAM, 36Gb internal HD S5000! I really must get that USB card... What OS are you running...

Re: Akai S5000 + internal SCSI drive installation

There is indeed a printed circuit (adapter?) connected between the drive and the ribbon as shown in the photos below: http://i1278.photobucket.com/albums/y507/gcoudert/1909f1bc0cb57aa04550cac9518e283a_zpseb93865a.jpg http://i1278.photobucket.com/albums/y507/gcoudert/c35f2677d2da98c15061e4de438d15a1_...

Re: Akai S5000 + internal SCSI drive installation

This is what I have in mine (it's 36Gb and was a lot cheaper, around £70) and it works great. I even transplanted it from my old S5000 into the new one without any problems and the floppy drive is still operational. Remember to put little rubber washers under all the screws connected to the chassis;...

The former example, sorry. To emulate a natural ambience.

Ambient reverb

Just wondering. What is an 'ambient reverb' exactly? A normal reverb with a short decay setting? How / when would you use it? What purpose does it serve? Thanks.

Lexicon MX-200. Opinions?

YouTube videos don't help much in appreciating how good or bad effect units sound so I was wondering if anybody here had any experience of working with a Lexicon MX-200. I mean, it's an inexpensive unit but it's a Lexicon so is it any good? http://i1278.photobucket.com/albums/y507/gcoudert/b95098f36...

Re: "Still Angry" - Identify Synthesizers?

You can email any member of the band from this page: http://www.bookoflovemusic.com/email/ Nice band by the way. Not sure how I missed them back then,.. That's what I thought too. Somehow, I don't think their music crossed the Atlantic at the time but I could be wrong. I have been listening to thei...

Re: possible synth used?(organ patches old 80s track)

The DX7 can produce all sorts of organ sounds, especially using algorithm 32, which is basically 6 parallel carriers (no modulators) producing sine waves. By adjusting the relative pitches and volumes of each one, you basically have a 6-drawbar organ. Layer it with a TX7 or another DX7 and you can g...

Re: "Still Angry" - Identify Synthesizers?

According to their Wikipedia entry, the synths used on the album are: Yamaha DX7, Oberheim Xpander, Casio CZ1000, Roland Juno 60 & JX-8P, Emulator, Yamaha RX11 drum machine, Simmons toms and various acoustic instruments.

Re: What synthesizers are used in these songs?

It is hard to tell which keyboards produced those sounds but I can promise you that you will achieve similar ones (with a little programming, of course) with any 90s rompler such as the JV- or XP-series from Roland. I don't know what your budget is but you could look for a second-hand XP-80 or XP-60...

Re: When recording synths...

If it sounds dull, try cutting out frequencies that don't need to be there, turn up the high end a touch, and really play around with stereo placement. One of the easiest ways to create depth and separation of tracks is to pan. Not half a*s panning in the 2 o'clock position, don't be afraid to hard...

Re: Expression pedal issue

I assume you have ensured the affected voice(s) do not have vibrato programmed ‘natively’, i.e. before any controller increase? Yes, I tested it with 'flat' patches. If that is not the cause, then I am pretty sure that neither the pedal nor the synth will offer calibration. Being from two different...

Expression pedal issue

I have tried to use my Yamaha volume / expression pedal with my Fantom X8 and, although it does what it is supposed to do, it doesn't return to 0 setting when the pedal is in its 0 position (when assigned to LFO pitch depth, I can still hear vibrato). I have used the pedal for years with no issues w...

Somebody once posted the whole Emax library on here. I'm sure that's where I got it from.
