Re: DX7 or DX7IIFD
Is the DX7S indentical to the mk1 DX7? (By that I mean, in every way except cosmetics.) I have owned both and still own a Mark 1. DX7 mark 1: - maximum keyboard velocity is about 118 - heavier - membrane buttons - 32 patches (without E! Grey Matter or Sycologic MX01) - one set of functions shared b...

Re: the complete dx7 II - howard massey
Sorry, I didn't realise there was a DX7II equivalent of the book. I was indeed referring to the original book for the Mark 1 model.

Re: the complete dx7 II - howard massey
It was posted on this forum not that long ago. Run a search with "Massey" as a key word. If you can't find it, I have downloaded it.

Re: Emu-II Samples...Wav's ?!
Actually, the EII choir is sampled off the Mellotron master tapes, sounds to me like they mixed male and female tapes to have a full choir sound, and the edited out the mistakes. They did a very nice job, it has a character all its own. Probably the best sub 1 Meg choir ever put together. The E-mu ...

Did A-Ha use a Juno-60 in their early days or did I imagine it?

Re: Which Was Jarre's Coolest Synth?
I'm rather intrigued by his RMI Harmonic Synthesiser . I must read more about it. He can be seen using it on the "Oxygène - Live In Your Living Room" DVD, using yellow plastic wedges to hold the notes, using some sort of arpeggiator, I guess... http://www.jarrography.free.fr/details_equipement_audio...

Re: Emu-II Samples...Wav's ?!
You could get copies of the EIIIX "Emulator Standards" volumes 1 and 2 and "E-mu Classics" CD-ROMS and extract the samples as wavs using CDXtract or something similar. If you have a sampler that reads EIIIX CDs (Akai S3000-series, E-mu ESI series and above), then it's even better.

Yamaha W7
The Yamaha W7 was marketed as the new DX7 back in '94, although it was a very different machine, which seemed to have more in common with the SY-series synths than with the DX. I was wondering whether any of you have played or owned one. Was it ever used on any famous recording? How good does it sou...

Re: Electrical wire?
Why are you concerned about changing it next time as I strongly suspect something far more serious will fail on it before then. In ten years time your DX will be over 30 years old and in need of some TLC! Actually I've suddenly felt rather old typing this! It's already in need of TLC - it was in su...

Re: Electrical wire?
I'm not very good with PCBs and soldering irons, although I did manage to change the backlight on my S1000 and a memory upgrade into my S2800i without any problems. Drilling into a PCB and soldering the battery holder onto it is waaaaaay beyond my competence  and soldering it onto the existing...

Re: Electrical wire?
Let me just clarify... My own battery was the original one and worked fine for 26 years! It's the guy who created that web site who had a problem with his wires. I am only trying to do what he did, i.e. put in a battery holder to make the next battery change easier. Now does that mean I can use any ...

Electrical wire?
I am in the process of changing the battery inside my DX7 Mark 1. My intention is to put in a battery holder, connected to the PCB with two short wires, as per the web site below. http://www.thedx7.co.uk/Battery_Change.htm The guy says that he had to shorten the wires to 5cm as he "found the battery...
