Re: Analog strings from something besides a "string machine
I miss the strings on my old Juno-60. PWM modulated by LFO + Chorus II. Yum...

Re: What songs has the Juno-60 been used on?
According to an old Keyboard article/interview Mark Kelly used a Juno-60 MIDIed to a DX-7 on Marillion's '85 album "Misplaced Childhood", eg on "Kayleigh". I remember reading about this too but I saw a photo somewhere that showed a 106, not a 60. And the 'Kayleigh' video below shows a 106 above the...

Re: Korg DW-8000 question.
Dirty key contact presumably. I had that problem with my D50. It's something you should be able to do yourself with care and patience but I think you ought to have the whole keyboard checked out.

Re: Has anyone used the Vocoder on the Wavestation A/D?
I used it on the SR, which as you know hadn't got an external input, so I was limited to modulating one sound with another. I remember producing decent vocoded strings at the time. What I did try but couldn't get a good result out of was stringing the built-in vocal samples (consonants, etc.) into a...

Re: Is Enigma's flute on Sadness same as in PG's Sledgehammer?
Sorry, my bad. And for some reason, I always thought the DM choir was a 3rd party Emax multisample, not an original EII sound.HideawayStudio wrote:I'm after the real thing - I have a EII and I'm looking for the original banks on 5.25" disk.

Re: Is Enigma's flute on Sadness same as in PG's Sledgehammer?
now if only somebody could send me the EII DM Enjoy the Silence vox samples from the intro!! Isn't that the sampled Mellotron choir? That choir sound was an Emax sample. There's a guy on YouTube (DX5, I think his user name is) who's done a demo of the sound on his Emax but he won't share the sample...

Re: DX7 vs TX7?
The Mk 2 (DX7S) has two banks of 32 patches indeed but an un-upgraded Mk 1 only has one bank of 32 patches, like the TX7.8bit9bot wrote:DX7 > TX7... the DX7 can save more patches

You need to reload your sounds either via Sysex or by reprogramming them.

Re: Strangest thing you ever found inside a synth
I once opened my old JX3P after buying it second-hand and found what looks like thousands of beadcrumbs; a whole picnic worth of them. The vacuum-cleaner soon took care of them.

Re: Suggest a VST host, ala "Virtual Rack"?
I am at the point where I am thinking of getting an slightly older secondary PC with 32 bit XP just to run plugins with fewer issues. Funny you should mention this. I'm having several issues with my laptop, which runs Vista Basic 32-bit, timing being the worst example. I was thinking of downgrading...

Re: Atmospheric Pads - Hardware
Roland JV1080 : 4 parts per patch, effects, LFOs, several filter types including high pass, lots of modulation routings. Patches can be further layered in Performance mode by setting the various parts to the same MIDI channel, delayed, panned, etc. LFOs are MIDI syncable, mod sources can be routed t...

Re: The first thing you sampled
My very, very first sampler was one of those Boss Digital Delay half-rack boxes, which could sample about 1 sec in lo-fi. The memory was volatile so to use the one and only sample live, I had to carry an old mono cassette player around and sample the sound before the gig! I could trigger it via a fi...

Re: Kurzweil K2000 SCSI & Wav's
Is your SCSI cable a proper SCSI cable? I had a relatively similar problem years ago with my S2000 and SCSI zip drive; what was sold to me as a SCSI cable turned out to be a parallel (or whatever) cable.

Re: Suggest a VST host, ala "Virtual Rack"?
Sonar LE is sort of 'free' and comes bundled with cheap hardware, although admittedly it won't run unless you have the said hardware connected to your computer. It has the virtual rack function you're after. Better still, Brainspawn's Forte 2.0 (Performer Edition) will 'only' set you back US$150. It...
