Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

Nah, it's just that in the grand pantheon of synths they just sound bad to alright, but not great. Throw in an interface that people don't like using, especially since it's an instrument, and it will end up on many people's worst list. Yeah, It doesn't help that they've had build quality issues fro...

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

I don't really think any synth sucks, but having seen the poly800 and FB-01 mentioned I must say: There's something about the poly 800 I really like. The sequencer made for some really cool song ideas when combined the right patch. I sold mine but want another. I keep my fb-01 around for the 'timpan...

Re: "Armageddon Practice" - MS-20 Mini demo tune

That's a rad track. You made this awesome bell kind of sound at around 0:29. Was that using the ring mod? I've never gotten my ms-20 to sound so FM-ey. Nice!

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini

I tried one out in a store a few weeks back - I was listening out for the gate 'thud' that I've read so much about, but couldn't notice it. That was with headphones too. The VCA white noise was noticeable, my 2 old ms20s don't have it but my ms10 does. Either way I wouldn't call it a deal breaker by...

Re: Money Mark's Minimoog Trick

The technique money mark demonstrated - he digs it, its creativity, it's positive. It's not like he's bludgeoning someone to death with a minimoog. Live and let live, Y'know? Cumulus, you're welcome to act like a j**k but it does you no favours. Seriously, go hug your lady or do something loving rat...

Re: Your Favorite Patch Names

On the Mininova : Doogie - like the e piano from doogie howser M.D. ( Guessing it was a dx7) but a lot more lofi / warbly. VHS - a chime kind of sound that with some fast LFO > noise volume, subtle flanging and ring mod sounds like it came of an abused VHS tape. Fauxfisa - because I keep my compact ...

If it's the sound I'm thinking of, you might be able to get closer using the LFO trigger button as a mod wheel substitute?

I think certain 12 step programs would refer to you as an enabler. 8-)

Interesting line of work 3mbalmeddx7, my girlfriend would love to pick your brain! (No weird zombie pun intended)

Vermona Kick Lancet

Is anyone here using a Kick lancet? I'm thinking it will be Nice compliment to my trigger out rolands (dr110/dr55/606/707/dr220a). I don't need authentic 808 boom but would like to hear some reviews, and also the sonic possibilities with the pitch knob up high and FM. I'm not making music for clubs/...

I'd keep the Juno, especially if you are happy with it. but I'm not too into poly synths.

Re: Why so Many Phatties?

I'd say a contributing factor would be a lot of the new analogues coming out too, like the ms-20 mini, bass station 2 and sub phatty. The lil phatty is great but I personally would likely sell one for a sub phatty/ms20/BS2 on account of the more tactical interfaces on offer. If the people aren't dig...

Re: First time buyer- entry level help

Yeah it's a bummer about the dorky genre knob but it doesn't come out of the speakers so I can ignore it. That big distorted talking bass sound isn't really my thing either. I'm pretty sure there are 128 free 'initialise' patches for your sounds plus you can tweak/rename the presets. (Somebody corre...

Re: First time buyer- entry level help

I picked up a Mininova a few weeks ago, and really like it. If you have a grasp of subtractive style synthesis it's pretty straight forward to program without a computer. (And I'm someone who HATES menu diving.) I really like the sound of it, really big bass too if that's what you're in to. I have p...
