Re: decent windows audio interfaces? $800+ range
If not, adding a firewire PCI card is inexpensive. I used a cheapy by SIIG for 6 years without any issues on three different machines (I keep upgrading / updating my desktop music computer). I recently did an experiment using just the preamps in the Steinberg to track my jazz trio. I have some very ...

Re: decent windows audio interfaces? $800+ range
Look at the Steinberg MR816x. It's actually made by Yamaha. It's really clean and beautiful sounding. Lots of expansion options, too. It's 8 analog in/out but you can get 8 more in/outs with an ADAT expander like the DigiMax or Behringer ADA8000. You can also daisy chain up to three MR816x units. It...

Those are very rare. The best page I've seen on them is:

The Kronos also has the CX-3 organ engine as well.

Are there any arpeggiator apps on the iPhone with MIDI support?

Re: What was your first Moog?
My first Moog experience was the MG-1 as well about 6 years ago. Even as simple as it is, I was instantly enamored and knew I had to have a Moog. Fast forward a few years and I bought a Moog Voyager Signature Edition, which I absolutely love.

Re: Is It Just Me?
It probably would've made more sense on the left side, yes. As cool as it is, I don't find myself using it much either. I do like how it responds, though. Imagine my dismay when I bought a Novation ReMOTE SL with a 2" x 2" assignable touch sensitive square pad on the left side (right under the mod a...

Re: Is It Just Me?
What is wrong with the interface of P08's or voyagers? What would you fix? I am not a fan of the Voyager interface. It has a big black hole and a tiny glowing screen right in the middle of the flow. Fair enough, though I'd like to point out that the screen, control buttons, and touchscreen take up ...

Re: Is It Just Me?
I still believe that the emulations will eventually be much better than they are now and they may even be able to replicate the complex interactins of electrons that make analog synths so lovely sounding. I would even be willing to bet that they could eventually make software synths that are, for a...

Re: Studio Electronics ATC-1 vs. ATC-X vs. ATC-Xi
That I don't know. Most likely they all sound very similar if not the same.
Also, $300 + $400 is $700 plus the price of the unit itself. For that money, you could just get a used ATC-x and call it a day!

Re: Is It Just Me?
Classic instruments become collectible due to scarcity and famous people playing them. If the CS80 was produced in the quantities of the DX7 and was just as ubiquitous in terms of recordings and bands using it, it's possible it wouldn't be as coveted now. Then again, rough estimates put the number o...

Re: Studio Electronics ATC-1 vs. ATC-X vs. ATC-Xi
The difference is that the original ATC-1 can only utilize one filter at a time and indeed you can only have one filter cartridge physically connected to the unit at a time unless you have the expander chassis. The ATC-x has all four filters internally and the active filter for a patch is saved with...

Re: Analog, VA or..... the future?
You guys hip to the Ondes Martonet? Probably one of the most expressive electronic instruments ever made and yet monophonic and damn near monotimbral (meaning it only has one or two "sounds") but as expressive as a violin or cello. Buchla has worked for years to try and make controllers that were mo...

Re: Most Bodacious Modern Digital Synth
The Korg Kronos seems to be the new Big Dog in the digital workstation realm. By all accounts it sounds amazing but I've read unfortunate reviews about it's less than stellar build quality. It would seem that it's going to get harder and harder for synth manufacturers to compete with the amazing and...
