Re: I tried the KRONOS
The Korg M3 takes sometime to boot up too, whereas the Karma KB didn't seem to take any time. I wonder why... If you turn it off whilst 'booting up' the synth (M3) could freeze. That's how I found mine. I had to bring it back to OS 1.0 and then slowly upgrade back to OS 2 point something. This may h...

Re: I enjoy the challenge of simplicity.....
I don't think anyone has answered my question regarding the use of computers. How many of you here compose, or even record (gasp!) without a computer? I would like to think my end-game would be a setup that I could escape the computer screen altogether with. Thoughts? Technically, aren't all digita...

Re: I enjoy the challenge of simplicity.....
I thought this thread was supposed to be about a 'minimal' set up for 'simplicity' sake, thus creating nice sounds with a simple set up. It turned to reflect 'musical' terms. Now a discussion of music with misappropriated terms and don't get me started on those who tag their music 'experimental' wit...

Excellent - thank you for that. I'll refer to this video next time someone asks the inevitable question.Z wrote:Speaking of 2600 vs. M5, here's a video someone made featuring both synths:

230652990528 Riiiigggghhhtttt.... (planning on selling yours soon? ;) ) At the price they are usually being sold (~400$), it's a deal. I think they are as good as those vintage synths sold at +650$. 1. Nope, never selling my Roland SH 1000. It's place in synth history alone requires me to keep it. ...

Re: Top Three Must-Have Anologs
To sums it, it looks like an Arp, sounds like a Moog and has all the patching options needed, right??! Seems like a nice package. Pretty much - but sounds more modular Moog than voyager Moog. I do prefer sliders to knobs too. And AG has a great point: I would buy a brand new modern ARP 2600 over a ...

Re: Top Three Must-Have Analogues
MacBeth M5 (everyone needs a modular or an ARP 2600) Just curious : M5 vs 2600 - Since you seems to have owned both; how do they compare? Sure... I have had the M5 for about 8 months and the 2600 for about 18 years (sold moons ago). They look similar but the sound is different. The M5 is grittier a...

Re: Top Three Must-Have Analogues
MacBeth M5 (everyone needs a modular or an ARP 2600)
Moog Voyager (nice warm tones to intermingle with the grit and rawk of an M5)
Moog Theremin (why not? - it's powerful, scary and hard to play, and analogue)

Re: Ridiculous eBay 'Buy-it-now' and starting bids.
Huh, about 3-4 times what it should be? 230652990528 Honestly, I think that's what the price should be for a Korg SH1000. It was the first synth out of Japan, designed for the masses and started the whole thing up, in that part of the world. The synth itself has a wonderful sound and is easily prog...

Re: Roland Connect - Countdown!
I just spent an hour demoing the new Roland Jupiter 80 and my impression in the limited time I spent is that it sounded thin in a digital way and was uninspiring. Thin? What do you mean by that? None of the demos or reviews indicate th JP80 to be thin. They tend to lean in the opposite way even wit...

Re: Roland Connect - Countdown!
I just spent an hour demoing the new Roland Jupiter 80 and my impression in the limited time I spent is that it sounded thin in a digital way and was uninspiring. The menus are somewhat clunky too. The Roland 'digital' sound and textures are here, and seems to share sonic similarities with other les...

Re: Most Unreliable, Finicky Digital Synth?
It's not the most unreliable synth ever, but how about the Korg MS2000 and its arpeggiator bug ? I had an MS2000 and the arp was never in time when syncing to MIDI clock. The only way around it was to map MIDI events to retrigger it when it got out of time. There has been lots of debate if Korg's O...

Re: Most Unreliable, Finicky Digital Synth?
..... The synths that gave me problems: MC 505. Slowly all the controls died. Terrible sliders, terrible mini keyboard, knobs changed values themselves, etc etc etc. After 4-5 years of intense use, died. .... Most of the synths find a proper use on creative hands. The only issues I have had with my...

The second video is the Young Gods doing what I think is the best version ever of Mack the Knife.
I think I have about 90% of everything they ever recorded.

Re: wx7 wind controller
I have one. I find they work best with Yamaha DX or TX synths as it can take advantage of the breath control part of the synth. Having said that, I haven't used mine in years because I never got around to taking it apart and cleaning it. All those years of spit finally gummed it up and to clean it r...
