Re: Juno 106 - Original voice chips work, should I strip?

IMHO nr.5

If all the chips are NOS and still work faultlessly, then that was some lucky find. I say leave itt at that. Resist the urge to tinker.

Re: Micromoog trimpots replacement

A good part of it is due to grime building up around the wiper contact point so a good clean sweep helps to minimize the "dent". Tuner cleaner does wonders but in such situation too much of it may turn the axis a bit loose. The force that rotates the trimpot must be higher than the force of the wipe...

Re: Micromoog trimpots replacement

If it´s not broken...
Trimmers are set-and-forget so there´s not much wear to the carbon tracks. Other than that the only reason I could see is to replace the originals with multi-turn pots. Those make the calibration of the kbd scaling and filter tracking a little more easier.

Re: Did Enya ever use samplers for her voice?

That was a good read.´Watermark´and particularly 'Orinoco Flow' indeed were refreshing at the time. No doubt it must have sold quite well. So the part about the A&R advising on the songs structure was interesting. They knew they were onto something and fabricated a hit. While definitely non-mainstre...

Re: Micromoog trimpots replacement

If you look at the schematics you´ll see that every trimpot has three terminals. I think the fourth terminal could be ignored and any vertical mount trimpot of suitable size could be used as replacement. With the DMM check for example the VCA trimpot, r606. One terminal should read +15VDC, another -...

Re: Did Enya ever use samplers for her voice?

You´re absolutely right, madtheory. That choir sound example is perfect. Thanks. My too high expectations about the legendary Series III led me into some dumb wishful thinking. BTW there´s another sweet example of the Fairlight (hopefully) in the sustained bells or glass harp or whatever it is, here...

Re: Did Enya ever use samplers for her voice?

Sorry for the inaccuracies. By 'all done on the Fairlight' I was referring to the western instruments found in the 'real orchestra'. All in context. The classical chinese instruments we hear are obviously REAL acoustic instruments, played by real people. Yeah maybe I'm wrong but I remember reading t...

Re: Did Enya ever use samplers for her voice?

I think it´s a legitimate question. I bought the "Watermark" album when it came out and I too thought Enya had sampled her own voice for all the 'hmmmms' and the 'ahhhhhs'. It would seem natural from her, with all the hitech she employed. But at the time I knew very little about sampling. All good s...

Re: Your latest musical purchase

Just got an SY77 in great condition. Everything seems to work, apart the backlight. Yes, even the disk drive works as well. Already got a TG77 but for €100 I had to have it. Hoping the onboard sequencer is as straightforward as on the SY85 (great workflow).

Re: Kawai SX210 questions/issues

360 euros isn´t bad for a rare poly in "as is" condition. Not being able to look under the hood even sort of gives you a moral right to talk the price down a bit. The odds are in your favour

Maybe all it needs is a new battery and a filter chip, but if you aren´t sure you need the synth and don´t want to take risks, you could share where you found it with those who do...

Hi,

It´s a gamble, but if the memory presets are intact and all functions seem right, maybe there´s only minor battery damage or none at all...
