Re: Korg Wavestation Revisited (inc 25 year old demo)

But imagine all the working musicians that actually used it "very lazily" as you said to good benefit. It worked for them simply and effectively. It put the bread on the table and for them it´s what mattered the most. But they wouldn´t use that sound if it wasn´t well crafted and suitable for their...

Re: Korg Wavestation Revisited (inc 25 year old demo)

Oh come on, because it was overused in the 90´s you´re denying it´s very well made? You're inventing words I never said. All I said was I hated it (it's actually my most despised synth preset out of *all* of them, for any synth.) There´s a reason why clichés become clichés, you know? Sure. In this ...

Re: Korg Wavestation Revisited (inc 25 year old demo)

Here´s what DB says about it. Do you think he cares if E.Piano1 ended up in all the cheesy 80´s ballads? :)
Interesting bit at the end where he talks about the DX7 not being a cold and sterile instrument too. Sorry about the derail.

Re: Korg Wavestation Revisited (inc 25 year old demo)

You could always just ask Ski about how he made it if you're that interested... http://www.peterschwartzmusic.com/index.html Thanks. I was hoping for an interesting inside story, just like when Dave Bristow had just a week to make the DX7 patches. The design team had a plethora of tools at their di...

This is interesting! Thanks for sharing.

Re: Korg Wavestation Revisited (inc 25 year old demo)

I think it starts with Kingdom Come, followed by Station Platform, followed by Deep Atmosphere. Halcyon pads sound like an edited version of Debussy On Wheels patch... Many thanks for that - you have jogged my memory. I did indeed use those factory patches among many others but what you have remind...

Re: Korg Wavestation Revisited (inc 25 year old demo)

I use the wave sequences to make systems music. I program a sequence loop of different waves at equal intervals and then play the sequence back polyphonicaly at different intervals and I quite like the results. The harmonic structure can get real dense.

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.

The little mini-board for the mod plugs into the IC38 socket ... and what kept happening was that I'd pull it out, re-seat it, everything would be fine, and then I'd close the lid and as soon as there was a little pressure on it, the screen would black out again. Probably when closing the lid there...

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.

Here... Point A is the +5V rail that feeds all the logic. You´ll find point A all over the schematic, as it´s the same voltage coming from the +5V regulator in the PSU. There should be continuity between them all. That one in particular feeds the memory IC36 when the power in ON. Notice the current ...

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.

I bought this unit in this state. It had a battery replacement with a holder, I decided to redo it with an additional diode installed in-between the + terminal of the holder and on the board. There are two diodes in the battery circuit, but neither one is directly connected to the plus terminal of ...

Re: Oberheim Matrix 1000, notes bump, and other things

At least you kept replying heh. Lots of people come here asking for help and never answer back. So, did the synth got fixed? And how? Troubleshooting over the Internet can be frustrating to an active member that spends a considerable time thinking and doing research, and then sees nothing. BUT when ...

Re: Korg Wavestation Revisited (inc 25 year old demo)

Nice demo, although a bit "baroque", which reveals it as a "period piece" IMHO, from when the WS was big news :) What would you people say the goal should be now? Make it sound less blatant and use the wavesequencing and vector synthesis in a subtler way so that no one says upon first listening "Ah,...
