Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.
Cheers for that. I already hinted at some wire harness I had unintentionally left unconnected after closing the synth, that caused similar symptoms. The harness is so short, it gets disconnected by itself when the case is unfolded by 90º. Ater you service te synth, such as installing a new battery, ...

Re: Oberheim Matrix 1000, notes bump, and other things
Yeah it can change either smoothly or abruptly depending on the voltage being either close to zero volts or at extreme values. It´s normal. Recalibrating afterwards so the entire synth adjusts to the "new" DAC setting is obvious, should go without saying.
Cheers.
Cheers.

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.
Yeah really wish the more knowledgeable people participated like before. My DW8K was working fine last time I turned it on, a few months ago... still interested to see how things develop in case it happens to mine. There´s an old thread here on VSE which I can´t find anymore... user got his fixed by...

Simply adjust the VR until it sounds good to you and be done with it. Enjoy your M1000.

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.
This is probably a really dumb question, but I have to ask: When my battery is connected, my meter shows continuity between the positive and negative terminals. When the battery is taken out of the holder, there is no continuity. Is this normal? It´s weird, huh? But it´s normal, though I´ve never u...

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.
Thank you for the continued advice Mooger5. I will try this later tonight and report back. In the mean time, here is a video showing the issue. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fs7dhfx5u79kfc4/DW8000Issue.MOV?dl=0 There´s some useful info here: http://www.pallium.com/bryan/dwbattery.php There it says this...

Re: Oberheim Matrix 1000, notes bump, and other things
You need a capacitance meter for that. Some multimeters also read capacitances. Or you could just replace the caps.lahatte wrote:
I will have to remove capacitors to check the values.
The picture you posted... The PCB area that´s significantly whitened... is it just the flash effect?

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.
Did all those DWs have the stock battery replaced? If so, you could try a little experiment: with the unit powered off, remove the battery from its socket and then touch pins 12 and 24 of IC36 with a small value resistor, just a couple hundred Ohms or so, for a few seconds. The idea is to fully disc...

Re: Oberheim Matrix 1000, notes bump, and other things
Those white capacitors have a larger footprint to look stock. I´m guessing a previous owner modded that M1000 or attempted a repair, so who knows what other changes were made. ESR values might be useful, but it´s capacitance that has to be measured for now. Doesn´t that meter read it? Are there uF, ...

Ok, sorry for being a nit snarky here.
So what's the reading on those capacitors?

Re: Oberheim Matrix 1000, notes bump, and other things
VCA stands for Voltage Controled Amplifier. It´s not a component, it´s a synth module. This is very basic stuff that any synthesist ought to know. The CEM3396 is a synth-on-a-chip that contains several modules. There are two VCAs on its output. A linear one for the volume, that is in series with an ...

Re: Experienced Juno 106 tech assistance please! Strange iss
Yeah, swapping wave chips is a good idea. Careful with the pin pitch which is narrower than usual. One thing that doesn´t make sense yet is the keyboard not having effect over the unwanted sound. If the chip is leaking, it still needs the clock signal from the counter since it´s incapable of generat...

Re: Oberheim Matrix 1000, notes bump, and other things
If the ESR meter does accurate readings in-circuit, do measure and compare the capacitors that are linked to pin 1 and pin 22 of the CEM chips. VCA exp. and VCA lin. respectively.
