Re: Zynaddsubfx with Live
Yeah, sorry can't myself help there as Mac OS and Linux are different environments - additionally both JACK and the program itself have gone through some significant changes during the recent years. I doubt though that you couldn't use other softsynths to get similar results, it was just that at the...

Re: The New Tom Oberheim SEM Thread
Being nit-picky about the differences is silly, when in the first place, old vintage SEMs didn't even match up or sound the same. So if the old ones never sounded identical, can a new and old one sound identical. Silly (but entertaining nonetheless). The new SEM sounds the same to me, unless I were...

Re: Close as it comes to CS-80?
I find that the analog filters on the hardware synth provide the analog foundation of the sound (bottom-end girth, warmth, presence) while the softsynth adds more depth and sonic detail (as well as exotic features like ring modulation, hi-pass filtering, etc. not found on your cheap 80s polysynth)....

Re: Korg Triton --- how on earth do you....
To the original poster: you're probably best off asking that question here (in case no one at VSE can provide an answer): http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ Sure CS_TBL, I know what you mean. But non- velocity sensitive keyboards were one of the main reasons why so many of my own generation nev...

Re: Zynaddsubfx with Live
Well, according to the developer's notes supplied with the program itself. the first thing you'll have to make sure is that the content of your music praises the lord before being even allowed to use it. Yeah, sorry about the nonsensical response - that just always gets me every time. I could never ...

Re: Korg Triton --- how on earth do you....
This is probably not the type of help you're looking for, but anyway: If you're relatively new to keyboards, I think you're better off just learning how to play with the velocity sensitivity enabled. That feature has always been patch dependent on many workstations though. The sounds mimicking old a...

Heh, I was just poking fun at several other threads that have been recently more active, but thanks for answering.

Re: Novachord Wakeup/Restoration Blog on VSE - YES/NO??
What if you replace too many of the old parts with currently available ones and it will end up sounding like a modern analog? Probably inspired by these very threads someone here in Finland posted a "I want to buy a Novachord" -ad on the most popular website that's used here for trading gear I guess...

Re: Close as it comes to CS-80?
tranceemerson (4 months ago) +2 Reply | Spam lol sounds like styx :) What sounds on that clip did you have particularily on your mind? The opening chords and the lead? The older Yamaha synths all have a far reedier sound on the highs, it's quite different territory altogether. There's something abo...

Re: Taking the SE1X plunge!
Here's my quick side by side comparison between the SE-1X and the Voyager to hear how hey sound. http://cl516.blogspot.com/2009/05/moog-voyager-vs-studio-electronics-se.html I know this is an old post, but thanks for posting these. It was interesting for me to listen to these. I will admit that a b...

Re: Resist buying, save up for the big one
Well, the big one might not always suit your needs after all. For the price of a new Voyager you could get several older monosynths that are bound cover a wider sonic palette than what any single unit can do (granted, the Voyager in particular is far from being a limited synth in itself). The analog...

Re: Best VCS3 emulation?
To be honest, I thought they were all pretty bad. Perhaps it's a too strong a reaction on my own part, but in particular that one guy who is attempting to sell his SynthEdit -made schlock for the modest price of 350€ nearly infuriates me (although he seems to be now acknowledging on his website that...

Re: ADVICE ON MY NEXT HARWARE SYNTH ANYONE?
I love the look of the MOOG's too but they give me the impression of not ahving a lot of original sounds. Well, these things have all effects applied on them, but they should give you some idea: Moog Voyager textures I've heard that some people have used the synth also for making music.

Re: The New Tom Oberheim SEM Thread
Good responses! I disagree ultimately on the latter part though. Although like mentioned in one of my previous posts you can probably compensate for the sound a bit by just using older preamps (or effects). I must have listened through that clip 20+ times and with each successive play the difference...

Re: The New Tom Oberheim SEM Thread
The problem now is, I want an original SEM. :P While I don't condemn this, I strongly disagree with such a mindset. In my view, synthesizers like other instruments evolve through time. It is pointless to be overly particular about certain sound character of an old unit because this unit will become...
